Academic Advising Specialist (HEOa)
POSITION DETAILS
The School of Education at The City College of New York (CCNY) seeks an Academic Advising Specialist to provide advising to undergraduate and graduate students in the division. The Academic Advising Specialist will report to the Dean and the Assistant Dean of Enrollment and Student Services of the School of Education.
(Campus-specific Information and duties)
•Work with the Dean and the Assistant Dean of Enrollment and Student Services of the School of Education with
coordinating and scheduling academic advising and registration activities for undergraduate and graduate students in the division.
•Ensure students receive consistent, accurate, and timely academic advising services and support student academic progress toward degree completion.
•Collaborate with program directors and other academic divisions to maintain a comprehensive academic advisement program.
•Assist students in resolving academic issues by providing guidance, information, and appropriate referrals to campus resources.
•Maintain and monitor advising records, student progress reports, and related documentation in accordance with divisional and college policies.
•Develop and implement individualized academic improvement plans for students on probation or experiencing academic difficulty, in accordance with established academic policies and guidelines.
•Perform other position-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in an academic advising environment within a college or university setting
Familiarity with student information systems (e.g., CUNYfirst, DegreeWorks, or similar platforms)
Experience supporting diverse student populations, including at-risk or probationary students
Knowledge of academic policies, degree requirements, and enrollment processes

Collaborates with other academic and administrative offices to maintain a comprehensive academic advisement program
Ensures students are provided with consistent, accurate, and prompt advising services, coordinating with academic departments
Works with students to resolve academic issues, providing information and/or referral
Develops orientation programs to engage and retain students and instructs students, faculty and staff on use of advising technologies
Conducts assessments to strengthen advisement programs
Organizes and facilitates training for faculty advisors
Develops print and online communication materials
May supervise office operations and budget
Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary Range: $70,815 - $82,663. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
