The University of Louisiana at Lafayette New Iberia Research Center (NIRC) specializes in the breeding, management, and importation of a diverse range of nonhuman primate species and offers a broad range of diagnostic, laboratory, and human resources for the development and characterization of nonhuman primate models for applied and basic research aimed at promoting human quality of life.
We’re looking for a Maintenance Foreman to join our Facilities Management Department at the New Iberia Research Center. This position provides supervision, guidance, logistical support, and limited administration to a team of skilled journeyman crafts and their helpers engaged in maintenance, construction, and repair work throughout the facility.
Minimum Qualifications
Two years of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience:
Four years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR
Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering plus two years of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR
Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses plus two years of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment to determine the need for various types of repairs or maintenance work.
Review work in progress and upon completion to ensure compliance with safety, quality, and performance standards.
Estimate labor and material costs; requisition necessary supplies, tools, and equipment for maintenance projects.
Create sketches or layouts for proposed building renovations or maintenance modifications.
Assign maintenance staff and crews to perform a variety of construction, repair, and upkeep duties.
Supervise journeyman-level work across multiple trades, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, plastering, and painting.
Oversee the servicing and repair of mechanical and facility-related equipment (e.g., lawn mowers, stoves, hot water systems, and refrigeration units).
Maintain accurate time, work, and maintenance reports for management review.
Evaluate staff performance, approve leave requests, and monitor attendance and productivity.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, preventive maintenance schedules, and institutional policies.
Provide technical direction and guidance to maintenance personnel to ensure work efficiency and adherence to procedures.
Collaborate with department leadership to coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities across facilities.
