City of New Iberia Heavy Equipment Operator 4 in NEW IBERIA, Louisiana

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

Depending on area of assignment, positions in this class operate the municipalitys complex excavating equipment; such as backhoe, gradall, excavator, dozer, in the public works and wastewater department, and assist with or operate any other equipment assigned, as well as participate in labor work and/or

lead work on construction and maintenance projects. Drives or transports unit to work area, inspects job site for proper location, safe conditions. Instructs helper if any, in preparing site and machinery, may participate in installing shoring as needed, forms, removal and replacement of pipe, repair of leaks, replacing concrete. Participates in training workers to perform more responsible tasks, including equipment operation. Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Literacy and a valid Louisiana drivers license is required. Obtaining a valid Louisiana Commercial drivers license (Class A) with no operating restrictions, and has air brake and tanker endorsements may be required within a specific period of time. Must also meet the general requirements of the Citys auto insurance company. Prior experience sufficient to enable safe and efficient operations of respective equipment are desired. Positions in waste water collection are subject to state regulations, which requires certification of qualification by examinations in addition to education and experience for advancement so that Waste Water Collection certifications are highly desired for many positions in this class.

-Must pass the civil service exam, post-offer drug screen, physical, and functional pre-placement testing.

-Must be a qualified registered voter; verification must accompany application.

Essential Functions

: Positions require prolonged sitting in operators station of heavy equipment using uncompromised manual dexterity and strength, as well as concentration and attention. Some heavy lifting up to 110 lbs. in Wastewater, climbing, digging, exertion, and working in confined spaces are required since operator must participate in work of crews to which assigned. Tasks require vision of at least 20/40 in each eye and depth perception of 80 seconds of arc or better; hearing and speaking abilities within normal limits.
