Discover your opportunities at Yale! Overview Advise and oversee all aspects of undergraduate performance-based activities, in a range of venues across campus, ensuring safety throughout the process. Working in a team of Technical Directors, manage programs and facilities in order to ensure the safety of over 700 student practitioners and 25,000+ audience members annually. Foster an inclusive and respectful working environment around production activity at Yale College. Carry out duties while exercising a high degree of autonomy and discretion. Work Week Flexible or Non-Standard (for anything other than Standard) Please note: This is a full time, continuing position. 10 month employment and 2 month unpaid leave each summer. Required Skills and Abilities 1. Knowledge of standard practices, equipment, and software in the areas of theatrical scenery, lighting, rigging, sound, and projection, including but not limited to, ETC consoles, Qlab, and AutoCAD. 2. Knowledge of production-related health and safety best practices and concerns and ability to identify and correct potential hazards. 3. Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize complex workload. 4. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively and flexibly with a large number of faculty, staff, students, community members, guest artists, and other professionals representing a wide diversity of personalities and backgrounds. Required Licenses or Certifications Valid Driver's License Preferred Licenses or Certifications ETCP and/or OSHA certifications welcome Physical Requirements Stand for long periods. Hold and operate hand and power tools. Repeatedly bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, squat and crouch. Repeatedly lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 lbs. Climb stairs and ladders and work effectively at elevations up to 75'. Drive cargo van and box truck. Principal Responsibilities 1. Collaborating with unit leadership, develop and implement production policies that ensure safe working conditions and high organizational and artistic standards.2. Assume primary responsibility for production oversight for student- and faculty-produced events in a range of venues. As designated, oversee or assist with professional touring productions in a range of venues.3. Hire, advise, and/or supervise student and professional production staff for student- and faculty-produced productions. For a wide range of performance and/or film events, advise students, faculty, and staff throughout the production process in areas including, but not limited to, safety, production planning, budgeting, technical design, and design.4. Evaluate student capabilities and, as needed, train, and mentor students and arrange/provide supervision during production activity.5. Hire and manage temporary staff and vendors as needed to support productions.6. Coordinate with internal (Yale) and external partners including safety organizations.7. Oversee production facilities, equipment, schedules.8. As designated, lead workshops in production skills.9. Other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 years of related experience; or the equivalent combination of education or experience.
