What You'll Do
Reporting to the Project Engineering Manager, the Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for cost estimates, conceptual tool and process design, as well as project development. This position works closely with all levels of Engineering, as well as Manufacturing, to create a product that meets the customer's requirements. Additionally, this position spans both process and project engineering tasks, goals, and initiatives in order to provide a well-rounded experience in Engineering.
Oversee a new project and associated development (NPD process) from initial design through shipment of the first article that meets the customer requirements on time and under budget
Develop cost estimates for new and repeat projects by gathering information from internal and external parties, process simulations, technical layouts, and design concepts
Create manufacturing documentation (BOMs, routings, part/process/tool sketches) using SolidWorks, visual work instructions, change orders, etc. to fulfill customer requirements
Work closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Materials, and suppliers/vendors for developing and assembling an appropriate manufacturing solution
Evaluate and/or disposition nonconformance reports and create necessary rework operational instructions
Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards throughout the project lifecycle
Organize and evaluate process and cost data (ex. planned vs. actual) to support decision-making activities
Perform observation/time studies for developing standards and improving processes
Act as the technical point of contact for the project, customer, and vendors when necessary
Assist with schedules and project status updates using MS Project for new orders
Assist with design and approval of tool designs for critical processing
Prepare and present project updates, technical reports, and capital expenditure justifications to senior leadership
Manage drawings, data sets, models, part lists, and specifications in accordance with internal controls
Assist with the development and improvement of engineering departmental procedures
Create visual instructions with process definition and control for safe manufacturing processes such as Process Control documents (PCs), Work Instructions (WI), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
Utilize and update ERP system for cost estimates, tooling, change notices, etc. to meet customer requirements
Participate in PFMEAs where and/or when necessary to mitigate risk
Assist maintenance with troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of machines when necessary
Evaluate, research, and provide feedback on new technologies
Participating in internal or external presentations related to Engineering topics
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while following all safety and quality procedures
Occasionally visit clients, vendors, and suppliers
Attending meetings and trainings as assigned
Complete projects as assigned
Team Responsibilities
Provide necessary support to the Commerce facility as needed
Have a daily presence on the manufacturing floor to work collaboratively with shop team
Support other divisional business units as directed by manager
What You'll Bring
Bachelor's degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering or related field required
2-3 years of manufacturing engineering experience strongly preferred
Previous experience in manufacturing, machining, or fabrication is a plus
Proficient knowledge and experience with Solidworks, AutoCAD, or other related software
Proficient knowledge in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and willingness to learn other software
Reliable transportation
Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
High level of confidentiality and professionalism when interacting with clients & vendors
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships
Ability to effectively manage time, multi-task, and pay close attention to details
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
Regularly required to move, sit, and bend for various hours throughout the day
Approximately 10-20 % of local, national, and international travel may be required
