Stantec’s Transport team in New Zealand is proud to deliver accessible and reliable transport options that get people and freight from A to B. Our 220-strong team is proud to work with councils, private sector clients and asset owners with national and international reach. We advise and design across state highways, local roads, rail, ports and more, generating value through smart ideas, pragmatism, resilience, safety and efficient asset management. We’re seeking a Structural or Senior Structural Engineer to join our Structural team in Nelson. Opportunities in Nelson do not come round very often so this is your chance to work on transport infrastructure locally, as well as working on projects across New Zealand.
You’ll work within a motivated team of structural engineers, who care about technical excellence, whilst developing client relationships with key stakeholders such as Waka Kotahi (NZTA), local councils, and private clients. You’ll also collaborate across other disciplines throughout project life cycles, in order to deliver innovative solutions and therefore assist in growing our business.
Day to Day aspects would involve:
Complete site scoping, investigations and assessments for structural engineering design solutions
Complete structural inspections. including bridge inspections independently.
Produce inspection reports, options reports, conceptual schemes, and provide detailed costed remedial solutions.
Complete design and monitoring of structural repairs arising from inspections
Assist and support in the technical delivery of structural projects.
Develop analytical models and prepare well-documented, self-reviewed structural calculation packages.
Oversee and review evolving documentation for technical accuracy.
Liaise with design teams and clients to resolve technical queries.
Contribute to project proposals, change orders, and support scope, budget, and scheduling discussions
Deliver work aligned with professional standards and to Stantec’s quality procedures
Contribute positively to team culture and continuous improvement.
To be successful for this role you'll need:
Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering.
4-12 years previous experience working in an engineering design environment.
Preference is for experience with transport infrastructure which covers inspections, design, and construction monitoring of structures including bridges, buildings and other civil structures.
Marine and 3 water structures experience would be advantageous, however not compulsory.
CPEng Structural or working towards would be preferrable but is not essential
An understanding of NZS3910, the building code, and relevant New Zealand standards.
Be able to work independently with limited oversight.
Structural software knowledge of SAP2000 or similar design software
Knowledge and capability across three waters and transport infrastructure.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines.
Problem solving mindset with strong interpersonal skills.
A proactive safety conscious approach to all aspects of design and construction.
