University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill Post-Doc Research Associate - Dr. Perry's lab in NC-Chapel-Hill, United States

Vacancy ID: PDS004834

Position Summary/Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated and interdisciplinary Postdoctoral Research Associate to join a BMGF -funded project focused on the development of biodegradable, 3D-printed microneedle array patches (MAPs) for sustained delivery of various classes of drugs with a focus on levonogestrel. This project leverages Continuous Liquid Interface Production ( CLIP ) additive manufacturing to design and fabricate next-generation transdermal drug delivery systems with tunable release kinetics and scalable manufacturing potential.

The successful candidate will contribute to the design, fabrication, and evaluation of loaded MAPs with clinically relevant dosing. The project will involve integration of materials science, drug delivery, and advanced manufacturing to optimize device architecture, drug loading, and release performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and fabricate microneedle array patches using CLIP 3D printing

  • Develop and optimize loading strategies and polymer formulations

  • Conduct in vitro and ex vivo characterization of drug release and mechanical performance

  • Evaluate biocompatibility and skin insertion properties

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across engineering, pharmaceutics, and clinical domains

  • Prepare manuscripts, reports, and presentations for scientific dissemination

Education and Experience:

Strong background in polymer science and/or controlled release systems is preferred

Experience with microneedles, transdermal systems, or additive manufacturing

Experience with CLIP or vat polymerization-based 3D printing

Familiarity with analytical techniques ( HPLC , LC-MS, mechanical testing)

Experience with in vitro release models and/or skin models

Background in contraceptive or hormone delivery systems (not required but beneficial)
