A Day in the Life
Within the Acute Care & Monitoring (ACM) R&D Engineering organization, the Senior Principal Enterprise Software Engineer provides technical leadership for the architecture and design of both existing ACM products and new platform initiatives. This role is accountable for defining and governing scalable, secure, and compliant software architectures, ensuring alignment with product strategy, long term technology vision, and medical industry standards across Desktop, Mobile, & Web ecosystems.
The role partners closely with engineering leadership, systems engineering, product management, and cross functional teams to drive architectural decisions, design reviews, and engineering best practices. As a recognized technical authority, the Senior Principal Engineer mentors senior engineers and technical leads, drives innovation, reduces architectural complexity and technical debt, and ensures that quality, testability, and regulatory compliance are built into the system by design within an agile, fast changing development environment.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
Architect and design secure, scalable, and innovative solutions for desktop, web, and mobile platforms, often developing systems from the ground up.
Partner with cross‑functional teams and stakeholders to ensure solutions meet business objectives and comply with FDA, ISO, and other regulatory standards.
Collaborate closely with local development and test leads, as well as the Operating Unit (OU) Development Architect, to align on technical strategies, design decisions, and implementation plans.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and engineering excellence.
Solve complex technical challenges, address system-wide issues, and deliver high‑quality, high‑performance, scalable solutions.
Ensure adherence to relevant regulations (e.g., FDA, IEC 62304) and maintain compliance with quality processes throughout the development lifecycle.
Coordinate with R&D teams across product lines to align technical strategies with business goals and enable smooth integration of systems and technologies.
Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry trends, incorporating relevant advancements into products and processes to drive innovation.
Contribute to iterative development cycles within Agile/Scrum environments, ensuring adherence to Agile principles and best practices.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
Minimum 18 years of software engineering experience, with deep expertise in architecting, designing, and developing solutions for desktop, web, and mobile platforms.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s or PhD preferred).
Proven experience as the lead architect / principal designer for at least two end‑to‑end software development projects (Windows desktop or mobile applications).
Extensive experience developing medical devices and working within regulated environments.
Strong expertise in enterprise architectures, including microservices, advanced API development, scalable system design, and integration strategies for complex, high‑performance applications.
Demonstrated technical leadership, team management, and strong communication/interpersonal skills.
Experience collaborating with global, distributed teams.
Expertise in C++ and C#, with proficiency in additional languages such as Java, Python, etc.
Proficiency in modern UI/UX frameworks and technologies: React, Angular, WPF, Qt.
Strong command of design patterns and architectural best practices.
Experience with design and modeling tools such as Enterprise Architect, IBM Rhapsody, etc.
Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
Experience building native and hybrid mobile applications.Nice To Have:
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
Understanding of FDA regulations, ISO standards, and global regulatory requirements for medical devices and healthcare systems.
Knowledge of emerging technologies: AI/ML, IoT, AR/VR within healthcare.
Certifications in enterprise architecture (e.g., TOGAF), cloud technologies (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Expert), or regulatory compliance (e.g., RAC).
