Overview
St. Luke’s Cancer Institute in Nampa, Idaho is seeking a clinically strong and collaborative Lead Oncology Pharmacist to support oncology pharmacy operations and clinical services within the infusion setting. This role serves as a functional lead for oncology pharmacy practice, working closely with pharmacy leadership to ensure safe, compliant, and high-quality medication use.
The Lead Oncology Pharmacist plays a key role in advancing oncology clinical services, optimizing workflows, mentoring staff, and supporting medication-use outcomes, while maintaining direct involvement in patient care and pharmacy operations.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Practice & Patient Care * Ensure safe, accurate preparation, verification, and distribution of chemotherapy and supportive care medications. * Provide direct patient care through clinical oncology pharmacy services, including therapy review, dosing validation, and monitoring. * Maintain compliance with sterile compounding standards (USP <797>, <800>). * Identify and resolve medication-related problems to optimize patient outcomes. * Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to enhance oncology care delivery.
Operational & Functional Leadership * Serve as a functional lead for oncology pharmacy services within the infusion center. * Support day-to-day pharmacy operations and workflow optimization. * Assist with implementation of system initiatives, policies, and procedures. * Ensure compliance with state, federal, and accreditation standards. * Contribute to staffing coordination and efficient use of pharmacy resources.
Quality & Performance Improvement * Support development and monitoring of quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives. * Participate in medication safety programs specific to oncology services. * Assist in evaluating and improving medication-use processes and outcomes. * Promote adherence to best practices and clinical standardization.
Training & Mentorship * Mentor and train pharmacists, technicians, students, and residents. * Serve as a clinical resource and subject matter expert in oncology pharmacy. * Support onboarding and ongoing competency development of staff. * Precept pharmacy learners as applicable.
Collaboration & Program Development * Work closely with pharmacy and cancer institute leadership to advance oncology services. * Assist in development and implementation of new clinical programs and services. * Support interdisciplinary initiatives to improve patient care and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
Education * Degree from an accredited pharmacy program (PharmD preferred).
Experience * Minimum of two (2) years of pharmacy experience. * Oncology pharmacy experience strongly preferred. * Completion of a PGY1 and/or PGY2 Residency may substitute for experience. * Prior leadership, precepting, or project involvement preferred.
Licensure & Certification * Valid Pharmacist License in the state of Idaho (or eligibility to obtain).

- American Safety & Health Institute
- American Heart Association
American Red Cross
If applicable, specialty certification (e.g., BCOP) preferred or expected within 2 years.
