Description
Burns & McDonnell India offers an exciting opportunity for a Civil Engineer to grow their career with an organization recognized among the Top 100 Large Workplaces in India. As we expand our Transportation (TRN) team, we are seeking a Traffic Engineer to support US transportation projects and help build traffic engineering capability within the team.
Role Overview
Support traffic engineering analysis, modelling, and operational design for US projects (highways, arterials, and urban networks), working closely with US teams and adhering to standards such as Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), AASHTO, and MUTCD.
- Key Responsibilities:
o Perform traffic impact studies, corridor analysis, and operational assessments
o Conduct intersection capacity and LOS analysis using Synchro and HCS
o Review geometric design elements such as lane configurations, channelization, signage, and
pavement markings.
o Conduct safety analysis using crash data and recommend mitigation measures.
o Develop microsimulation models using VISSIM or similar tools
o Prepare traffic forecasts (trip generation, distribution, assignment)
o Support signal design (phasing, timing, coordination)
o Analyse traffic data (counts, speed, queues, travel time)
o Prepare technical reports, calculations, figures, and client deliverables with quality assurance
checks
o Coordinate with US teams and multidisciplinary stakeholders
o Contribute to templates, workflows, and capability development.
Qualifications
o Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred)
o 2–8 years of traffic/transportation engineering experience
o Knowledge of US standards (HCM, AASHTO, MUTCD preferred)
o Proficiency in Synchro, HCS, and/or VISSIM
o Strong understanding of LOS, traffic flow theory, and signal design
o Good communication and report-writing skills.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
Experience on US DOT/city/county projects
Exposure to multimodal analysis (pedestrian, transit, bicycle)
