Responsibilities

  • Perform MIG welding (GMAW) on steel components and assemblies in flat, vertical, and overhead positions.

  • Stitch weld and full weld components and assemblies according to specifications and quality standards.

  • Fabricate, repair, and finish steel storage and shipping containers as they move through multiple production departments.

  • Read and interpret basic blueprints, drawings, and prints to determine weld locations, dimensions, and assembly requirements.

  • Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, rulers, and other measuring tools.

  • Lay out and measure dimensions and reference lines on materials, such as roofing panels, using calculators, scribes, dividers, squares, and rulers.

  • Use and maintain basic hand tools and equipment, including grinders, shears, hammers, punches, drills, and other portable power tools.

  • Drill and punch holes in metal for screws, bolts, and rivets to fabricate or modify parts and assemblies.

  • Fasten seams and joints with welds, bolts, cement, rivets, solder, caulks, metal drive clips, and bonding materials to assemble or repair sheet metal components.

  • Trim, file, grind, deburr, buff, and smooth surfaces, seams, and joints of assembled parts to meet finish and quality requirements.

  • Monitor fitting, burning, and welding processes to prevent overheating, warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of materials.

  • Ignite torches or start power supplies and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals, completing electrical circuits safely and efficiently.

  • Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind, or bolt component parts into position prior to final welding and assembly.

  • Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, including shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.

  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding.

  • Work collaboratively within the production team to ensure containers move efficiently through an automated conveyor system while meeting production targets and quality standards.

  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while handling welding equipment, cutting tools, and materials.

Essential Skills

  • Approximately 5 years of hands-on welding experience in a production or fabrication environment.

  • Proficiency in MIG welding (GMAW) on steel in flat, vertical, and overhead positions.

  • Ability to pass an AWS 4G welding test.

  • Ability to read and work directly from basic blueprints and prints.

  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure and use standard measuring tools such as rulers, squares, calipers, and straightedges.

  • Experience using basic hand tools, grinders, shears, hammers, punches, and drills in a fabrication setting.

  • Ability to monitor welding and fitting processes to avoid overheating, warping, or distortion of materials.

  • Experience recognizing, setting up, and operating welding equipment, including gas metal arc and shielded metal arc welding machines.

  • Ability to lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to welding.

  • Experience drilling and punching holes in metal for fasteners and assembly.

  • Skill in trimming, filing, grinding, deburring, buffing, and smoothing welded and assembled parts.

  • Ability to safely ignite torches, start power supplies, and strike welding arcs.

  • Experience operating manual or semi-automatic welding equipment for multiple welding processes, including gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Knowledge of oxy/acetylene equipment and plasma cutter operation is a plus.

  • Experience working with steel fabrication and structural welding.

  • Familiarity with production welding environments and automated conveyor systems.

  • Ability to fasten seams and joints using a variety of methods such as welds, bolts, cement, rivets, solder, caulks, and metal drive clips.
