Mathematics Adjunct Mount Vernon Nazarene University Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) is an intentionally Christian teaching university for traditional age students, graduate students, and working adults who seek opportunities to learn and grow in an academic community of faith. The University seeks an Adjunct Instructor in Mathematics for the College of Adult and Professional Studies (CAPS) to teach courses to international students in both hybrid and online formats. All graduate courses utilize pre-developed, standardized curricula (includes textbook selection, course syllabus, grading scale, and all learning objectives, assignments, assessments, and activities). Instructors are required to facilitate the course using these materials and resources, which are provided to students via the Moodle learning management system. Responsibilities for this position include:
- Nurture a positive online learning environment that fosters collegiality, critical thinking, personal growth, and mutual respect
- Effectively facilitate weekly course content, including all discussion forums and other learning activities
- Ensure completion of all learning outcomes as outlined in the course syllabus
- Regularly interact with students via weekly announcements and discussion forums
- Provide detailed and timely feedback on all student assignments
- Actively monitor student progress and timely completion of all assigned learning activities, and assist students as needed
- Identify at-risk students and refer them to appropriate academic support services
- Respond to all student questions and concerns in a timely manner
- Submit weekly attendance and final grades within required deadlines
Expectations for the successful candidate:
- Evangelical Christian confession of faith and experience (Statement of Faith required at application)
- An earned master's degree with at least 18 graduate credits in mathematics, or a doctorate in mathematics or related field from an accredited U.S. college/university
- Exceptional interpersonal, oral presentation, and written communication skills
- Engaging facilitation style and appreciation of successful instructional approaches for a range of student academic abilities
- Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office (Moodle training will be provided)
