Variety FoodServices Food Service Worker in Mount Clemens, Michigan

Job Summary

We are seeking a part-time Food Service Worker to support daily meal service at Mount Clemens Middle and High School. This role follows a typical schedule of 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., assisting with food preparation, service, and cleanup. The ideal candidate is dependable, enjoys working in a school environment, and is committed to maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming cafeteria for students and staff.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Learn and maintain knowledge of the menu items and ingredients
  • Prep salads, deli, and all hot food daily
  • Serve lunch in designated areas
  • Organize and work quickly. Know when to restock items
  • Keep warmers and food at proper temperatures (below 41 F or above 140 F)
  • Keep area clean and sanitized at all times
  • Help co-workers during rush time or whenever help is needed
  • Assist with food check-in and temperature taking
  • Assist with doing dishes/pot/pans and general clean-up
  • Sweep and mop area at end of day and as needed throughout the service periods
  • Assure proper portion control
  • Assist Executive Chef with all prep, setup, and clean-up for food service

Physical Demands and Abilities

  • Must be able to stand, stoop, and bend for 6+ hours per day
  • Must be able to lift 25 - 50 lbs

Job Qualifications

  • Food Service Support: Previous food service or cafeteria experience is helpful but not required. Willingness to learn menu items, ingredients, portion control, and basic food safety practices.
  • Teamwork & Efficiency: Ability to work well in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, assist co-workers during busy times, and stay organized throughout service.
  • Cleanliness & Sanitation: Commitment to keeping work areas clean and sanitized, assisting with dishes, general clean-up, and end-of-day sweeping and mopping.
  • Physical & Scheduling Requirements: Able to stand, bend, and lift 25 - 50 lbs. for extended periods and available to work flexible schedules, including weekends and rotating holidays.
