About E&ES:

Caterpillar’s Electrification & Energy Solutions (E&ES) Division will focus on delivering advanced electrified power train, zero-emissions products/technologies, and the solutions and services associated with these technologies. Focus areas include batteries, fuel cells, motors, inverters, micro grid controllers, charging, energy storage systems, lifecycle solutions/services and integration of components for ePowertrain solutions across industries.

Job Summary:

Caterpillar Electrification + Energy Solutions Division currently has an opening for Senior Engineer Design- Battery Module Mechanical System Integration located in Mossville, IL. This position will have responsibility for design development, integration and validation of battery module mechanical systems for electrification programs through New Technology Introduction, New Product Introduction & Small-batch development phases from concept through production.

What you will do:

This position will be accountable for translating mechanical system requirements from L4 teams into appropriate battery module mechanical system designs thru component and subsystem integration. It will also have accountability for mechanical system auditing, troubleshooting, validation, and issue resolution to ensure alignment to safety and regulatory standards and reliability expectations.

This includes:

  • Developing design parameters, performance characteristics, and technical specifications of products and components that satisfy customer needs and advance safety, quality, velocity and cost.

  • Participating in supplier selection and capabilities assessment.

  • Monitoring, exploring, and testing new technologies, materials, and components to understand product or process improvement opportunities.

  • Constructing and fabricating prototype equipment; overseeing materials selection, process optimization and process yield, as well as reliability testing and failure analysis.

  • Leading the development of battery module mechanical systems.

  • Providing direction, concepting, and consulting for new application investigations and guidance for the overall architecture and design of batteries within New Technology Introduction (NTI) and New Product Introduction (NPI).

  • Performing mechanical analysis work, identifies design problems, and resolves problems.

  • Leading Battery module design for program and maintain commitments for key program deliverables.

  • Collaborating with internal and external suppliers with the APQP process.

  • Building relationships and leverage business unit and corporate battery system experts.

  • Leading and documenting high voltage mechanical system integration best practices and design guides.

What you will have:

  • Degree Requirement: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • Analytical Thinking: Extensive experience and knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Extensive experience and knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

  • Effective Communications: Extensive experience and understanding effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

  • Project Management: Extensive experience and knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.

  • Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Extensive experience and knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate and test product design drafts.

  • Product Development Life Cycle - MFG: Extensive experience and knowledge of the methodology and associated phases, activities and deliverables of product development life cycle in manufacturing organizations; ability to bring new or enhanced products to the marketplace.

  • Product Testing: Extensive experience and knowledge of product testing approaches, techniques and tools; ability to design, plan and execute testing strategies and tactics to ensure product quality at all stages of manufacturing.

  • Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Extensive experience and knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment.

Top Candidates will also have

  • TCE / Releasing Experience

  • Knowledge and Experience with DFMEA’s

  • Structural Design, Analysis, and Validation Experience

  • Prior experience in testing of battery pack/ module component and systems.

  • Experience in product development, validation or product support of prime products and/or mechanical systems.

  • Prior 6 Sigma, Lean, and/or project management experience

  • Experience leading complex technical projects across multiple groups or sections

  • System Engineering Experience and Machine Application Knowledge

Additional Information:

  • This position is located in Mossville, IL and requires 5-day a week on-site availability

  • This position may require 10% travel for hands-on work at build and test facilities

Summary Pay Range:

$112,710.00 - $169,060.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
