rrPosition Overview:

r

This position helps ensure a safe campus environment and supports the life safety needs of campus building users by maintaining and repairing safety systems such as emergency egress lighting and fire suppression equipment.

This is an essential position that will be called upon in the event of an emergency and/or university closure.

Duties may include:

  • Inspect and test life safety systems and associated equipment
  • Receive and respond to state-issued safety discrepancy notices
  • Support the fire suppression systems and manage the life safety equipment maintenance program and associated equipment
  • Conduct area and equipment surveys
  • Initiate service requests for needed repairs
  • Collect and maintain records
  • Other duties as assigned

rrRequired Experience:

r

  • Inspecting and maintaining fire doors, egress routes and emergency lighting
  • Performing and documenting safety inspections
  • Performing maintenance and repair tasks involving life safety equipment such as fire extinguishers and egress lighting
  • Reading blueprints and floor plans
  • Using computer software and applications for word processing, email, internet searches and data organization
  • Applying safety codes, regulations and standards such as OSHA and the National Fire Protection Association Standards

rrRequired Education:

r

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

rrRequired Other:

r

  • Hold the Fire Extinguisher V2 Certification of Service Personnel or be able to obtain within three months of hire
  • Possess a valid drivers license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university-owned vehicles

rrAdditional Preferred:

r

  • Experience using Microsoft Excel and Access
  • Hold a CPR/First Aid instructor training certification and be able to instruct CPR/First Aid courses
  • Experience working in higher education
  • Experience setting up, reviewing and closing work orders in FAMIS

rrPhysical Requirements & Working Conditions:

r

  • Must be able to:
    • Bend, stoop and work in awkward positions for several hours at a time
    • Carry, lift or otherwise moves items weighing up to 50 pounds
    • Stand and walk continuously throughout the workday
