NetApp Sales Compensation Director in Morrisville, North Carolina

Job Summary

NetApp is seeking a Director of Sales Compensation to lead the strategy, design, and governance of its global sales compensation programs. This role ensures incentive plans are competitive, scalable, compliant, and aligned with NetApp’s business objectives and evolving sales landscape. The Director serves as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, leveraging data-driven insights to drive sales performance, optimize compensation models, and ensure strong governance across all programs. This position does not have any direct reports.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Compensation Strategy & Design

  • Lead the design, evolution, and governance of competitive, performance-driven incentive compensation plans aligned with company goals

  • Develop scalable compensation models that support an evolving go-to-market and sales landscape

  • Continuously assess and optimize plan effectiveness to drive high performance and competitive advantage

  • Balance innovation with simplicity, scalability, and financial discipline

Stakeholder Partnership & Advisory

  • Build and nurture strong partnerships with Sales, Finance, HR, and Legal to drive alignment across compensation programs

  • Ensure compensation strategies comply with legal, regulatory, and policy requirements

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership by delivering data-backed recommendations and insights

  • Translate complex compensation concepts into clear guidance for executive and field stakeholders

Governance, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Establish and maintain governance structures, approval workflows, and audit processes for compensation programs

  • Ensure consistency, integrity, and fairness of compensation plans across regions and sales roles

  • Maintain clear documentation, controls, and audit-ready materials to support internal and external reviews

  • Partner with Legal, Finance, and HR to proactively identify and mitigate risk

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred

  • 10+ years of experience in Sales Compensation, Sales Operations, Finance, or a related field

  • Deep expertise in incentive compensation strategy, design, governance, and compliance

  • Proven ability to influence senior leadership in a matrixed, global environment

  • Strong analytical and executive communication skills

Compensation:

The target salary range for this position is 191,250 - 284,900 USD. The salary offered will be determined by the candidate's location, qualifications, experience, and education and may be outside of this range. Final compensation packages are competitive and in line with industry standards, reflecting a variety of factors, and include a comprehensive benefits package. This may cover Health Insurance, Life Insurance, Retirement or Pension Plans, Paid Time Off, various Leave options, Performance-Based Incentives, employee stock purchase plan, and/or restricted stocks (RSU’s), with all offerings subject to regional variations and governed by local laws, regulations, and company policies.
