Description The Dean's Office of Academic Affairs in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) Career Development Specialist. About the Opportunity The Career Development Specialist will perform a wide range of career counseling to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as programming, instruction, employer relations, and administrative functions within the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences. This will include, but is not limited to, 1:1 and group career counseling, creating networking events, presenting workshops, and building relationships with potential employers and internship sites. This staff member will work primarily with students in specified Eberly majors. We strongly believe in work-life balance and keeping time for things we love outside our work. Wellness programs What You'll Do Career Advising Counsel undergraduate and graduate students, and recent alumni, regarding career decision-making, experiential learning opportunities, full-time professional job search strategies, graduate and professional school, and career/life planning. Effectively support students through all phases of career exploration and decision making by providing personalized, developmentally appropriate counseling. Manage relationships with Eberly's academic programs within specific, designated academic areas and career pathways. Connect academic programs to different career pathways. Meet with students, in person and virtually, from designated academic areas through group setting, individual appointments, and drop-in hours. Review resumes, cover letters, and other professional documents (in person and electronically) and provide highly tailored feedback. Conduct mock interviews. Collect student feedback and perform assessments in these areas in order to identify areas of development and best practices. Maintain vanity account dedicated to career services in the Eberly College. Instructing Career Development Courses for Academic Credit Under the direction of Eberly's Director of Advising, design new curricula for career and professional development courses, for both major and industry specific audiences. Instruct courses as assigned by supervisor. Consult industry representatives, including campus recruiting contacts, to ensure accuracy and efficacy of the content, particularly as it pertains to a targeted discipline or industry.
