About the Role [The Welder-Fabricator performs responsible skilled work in welding repairs and fabrication services for the Town's Fleet[.[This role involves a variety of work pertaining to the welding and fabricating of metal components used on both light and heavy-duty equipment and vehicles[.[Beyond primary fabrication, the employee performs tire replacement and services as needed and assists other departments with various welding requests[. ]{path-to-node="9,11"}]{path-to-node="9,9"}]{path-to-node="9,7"}]{path-to-node="9,5"}]{path-to-node="9,3"}]{path-to-node="9,1"} The employee must exercise judgment and initiative in assessing broken equipment and determining the best method of repair . Work is performed under regular supervision in both inside and outside environments, involving exposure to hazards such as loud noises, vibrations, moving mechanical parts, chemicals, and fumes .

: - Perform welding repairs by assessing damaged equipment, heating and straightening metal, and selecting appropriate welding rods . - Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions as required . - Connect cables from welding units to obtain specific amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse . - Measure and cut metal using specialized welding equipment and smooth rough edges . - Perform tire replacement and related services for the Fleet . - Maintain and make minor repairs on welding equipment . - Log assigned work orders for each repair and maintain accurate records . - Maintain a clean and organized work area and garage . - Adhere strictly to all safety procedures, department policies, and the use of proper PPE . - Assist other departments with various welding and fabrication needs . - Perform other duties as requested .

: - High School Diploma or GED . - Over hree (3) years of direct experience in welding and fabrication ; - OR an equivalent combination of education and experience .

Special Requirements - Possession of a validNorth Carolina Drivers License. - Ability to efficiently operate a service truck, crane, forklift, and all fabrication equipment including Mig-Welders, Oxy-Acetylene Torches, plasma cutters, and drill presses.
