About the Role The Streets Maintenance Technician I performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled manual labor tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of Town streets and related infrastructure within the Public Services Department. Work includes tasks such as concrete and asphalt work, drainage maintenance, landscaping, flagging traffic, and assisting with minor equipment repairs. Employees in this class work both independently and as part of a crew, often in outdoor environments and in varying weather conditions. This role supports the safe and effective upkeep of streets, sidewalks, and storm drainage systems and plays a key part in snow and ice control operations. Work requires following detailed instructions, using hand tools and light equipment, and maintaining safety standards at all times.: - Perform semi-skilled and unskilled tasks in maintaining and repairing Town streets, sidewalks, and storm drainage systems - Prepare asphalt materials for resurfacing and patching - Assist with laying, pouring, and finishing concrete - Hand grade streets, ditches, and construction areas - Clean storm drains, culverts, and catch basins - Perform mowing, trimming, and general landscaping around work sites - Heat and maintain proper temperature on tar kettle - Set up safety cones, signs, and flag traffic around work zones - Operate asphalt roller, air hammer, and other light-to-medium equipment - Assist with minor repair of equipment and tools - Remove snow from sidewalks and designated areas - Perform other related duties as assigned
: - High School Diploma or GED - Six (6) months of related experience in construction, maintenance, or manual labor; ORan equivalent combination of education and experience
Special Requirement - Possession of a valid North Carolina Drivers License
