*Position Overview: *The 3D Printing and Assembly Technician is responsible for 3D printing operations and jig assembly to support production demands within the machine shop. The position ensures jigs are fully assembled, staged, and ready ahead of production needs while maintaining reliable 3D printing operations.
This role also supports shop organization through 6S standards and assists with the tool crib and general production needs as required.
Key Responsibilities:
3D Printing Operations
- Set up, operate, and monitor 3D printers for production and internal shop needs
- Manage slicer software, print files, and job queue based on production priorities
- Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of 3D printers
- Inspect printed parts to ensure conformance to specifications and quality standards
- Communicate with internal stakeholders regarding print requests, timelines, and changes
- Manage and maintain 3D print request system
Jig Assembly and Staging
- Assemble production jigs using 3D printed components, machined parts, and purchased hardware (e.g., McMaster-Carr components)
- Stage and kit all required hardware and components in advance to meet production demand
- Maintain organization and traceability of all jig components and assemblies
- Track hardware usage and proactively identify shortages or upcoming needs
- Coordinate with inventory and purchasing to ensure timely availability of required materials
- Read and interpret technical drawings, work instructions, and procedures to manufacture assemblies.
Secondary Responsibilities
- 6S and Shop Organization
- Implement and sustain 6S standards within assigned areas (toolboxes, tool crib, printing area, and assembly areas)
- Conduct weekly 6S audits of toolboxes and work areas
- Maintain a clean, organized, and standardized work environment
- Identify and support continuous improvement initiatives
Tool Crib and Inventory Support
- Maintain tool crib organization and stock levels using Kanban systems
- Ensure Kanban bins are properly stocked and cards are submitted for replenishment
- Communicate material shortages or discrepancies to appropriate personnel
General Machine Shop Support
- Measure and inspect parts using calipers, gauges, and other measuring tools
- Occasionally assist with machine operation or other shop needs as required
- Follow all quality, safety, and manufacturing procedures
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What You Will Bring to the Team:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a manufacturing or machine shop environment preferred
- Experience with FDM 3D printing setup, operation, and troubleshooting preferred
- Experience with mechanical assembly, kitting, or jig/fixture build preferred
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail (critical for success in this role)
- Ability to read and inte pret drawings, work instructions, and procedure manuals
- Basic understanding of tolerances and use of measuring tools (calipers, gauges, etc.)
- Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate across departments
- Self-motivated with a proactive approach to problem-solving
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Reliable attendance and team-oriented mindset
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or lawful Permanent Resident in compliance with ITAR regulations.
