Eaton Corporation Embedded Hardware Engineering Specialist in Moon Township, Pennsylvania

Eaton’s Corporate Sector division is currently seeking a Embedded Hardware Engineering Specialist. Relocation assistance will be provided for this position which will be based out of Moon Township, PA.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $113000 - $165000 a year.

What you’ll do:

Job Summary

Reporting to the Embedded Electronics & PCB Design CoE Manager, this role sits at the intersection of power electronics, embedded systems, and advanced protection technologies, supporting the development of intelligent trip units and digital circuit protection architectures that enable safer, smarter, and more connected electrical infrastructure. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with a multi-discipline engineering teams in the Center of Excellence and the circuit Protection Division, distributed around the world.

Job Responsibilities

As a senior technical contributor, you will:

• Responsible to execute full Hardware development life cycle including requirements management, design, development, verification & validation, qualification & certification for electronics-based circuit protection products

• Architect and design hardware subsystems including:

  • Driver circuits

  • Protection & sensing circuits

  • Metering systems

  • Communication interfaces

  • Human-machine interfaces

• Translate product requirements into robust technical specifications in collaboration with marketing and applications teams

• Execute hardware design, validation, and qualification testing

• Partner with controls teams to develop and validate fault management algorithms using HIL platforms

• Own detailed development planning, requirements traceability, and issue tracking

• Conduct and participate in formal design and quality reviews

• Drive technical excellence and innovation, including IP generation

• Collaborate with R&D, Electrical and Industrial Sector Centers of Excellence, national labs, and universities

• Operate within Eaton’s phase-gate new product development processes

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications (Must Haves):

  • Bachelors' degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, power electronics, systems engineering or mechanical engineering with an electrical and/or controls specialization

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in new product development

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience architecting, designing or developing embedded electronic products

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in solid-state or hybrid circuit breaker control systems

• proficiency layout tools: Altium, Alegro (Cadence)

• Experience with wireless technologies (Bluetooth, WiFi, Zigbee/Matter)

• Familiarity with project tracking tools (Jira, JAMA)

• Experience transitioning designs into production environments

• Experience working in multi-disciplinary development teams

Skills:

Technical knowledge

• Circuit Design & Simulation: Proficient in high-speed, digital, mixed-signal, and analog circuit design using tools like PSpice, LTSpice, and ModelSim.

• knowledge for various Communication protocols like USB, SPI, I2C, wireless Proficiency in simulation tools like PSpice, LTSpice, Model-Sim

• Familiarity with microcontroller and processor families, embedded power architectures

• Proven experience in system/hardware architecture, topology definition, or platform-level design.

• End-to-End Product Execution: Led multiple medium-to-high complexity projects from concept to commercialization, including POC, verification, validation, and certification to global standards.

• Hands-On Design Expertise: Proficient in PCB design, component selection, schematic creation, product testing, prototype development, and industrialization.

• Standards Compliance: Deep knowledge of UL, IEC, and NEC standards

• EMI/EMC: Experienced in EMI/EMC analysis, filter design,

• Lifecycle & Architecture Ownership: Led full hardware development lifecycle including requirements, architecture, design, verification, validation, and certification.

• Strategic Collaboration & Innovation: Strong communicator and influencer, proposing innovative solutions, managing schedules, and protecting IP through patents/disclosures.

• Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS)

• Communication Protocols & PCB Design: Strong grasp of digital interfaces and protocols (RS232, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, Modbus, BACNet, CAN, etc), schematic entry, and PCB design for EMI/EMC compliance.

• Validation & Global Collaboration: Skilled in hardware validation, physical layer testing, and power systems analysis, with excellent cross-cultural collaboration capabilities.

• Leadership & Technical Competency: Proven ability to lead through influence, build technical competency across teams, and drive product development for commercial viability.

Soft skills
