Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, Inc. Journey Level Substation Technician-U in Montrose, Colorado
Job Description:
You may be required to complete a successful Background Check. If you have not done this, you will be required to complete a Personal Risk Assessment and Fair Credit Reporting Act Form.
Must have a satisfactory work record.
Must successfully pass the following tests:
Transmission “Technical Apprentice Qualification” Test with a 75% or better score.
Transmission “Substation Technician and Substation Apparatus Technician” Practical (hands-on) Test with a 75% or better score
Requires successful completion of Tri-State’s Substation Technician Apprentice Program.
OR
Six (6) years of combined education and experience in electrical and electronic field. This would consist of:
- the equivalent of technical training received in an Associate Degree program in Electronics Engineering Technology with advance studies in industrial electrical and electromechanical controls and digital systems control logic;
AND
- Four (4) years of practical experience in maintenance of industrial electrical-electromechanical- electronic control equipment, which must include one year of electric power substation apparatus maintenance experience, involving testing of power transformers, testing and repair of power circuit breakers, and electrical insulation system testing and repair;
AND
Two (2) years of experience in testing, calibrating and repairing protective relay devices and revenue meters. Must be capable of satisfactorily interpreting electrical schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams and control logic.
Must have and maintain, or be able to obtain within 6 months, a valid Colorado Class ‘A’ Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Tanker endorsement, and no Air Brake restrictions.
Must have and maintain, or be able to obtain and maintain a First Aid and CPR Certification within 6 months of hire, and have the ability to perform First Aid and CPR.
Must have a willingness to work in and around high voltages common to the electrical utility industry.
Must be willing to accept overnight travel up to 75% of working time.
Must reside within 60 minutes response time from your regular reporting location.
Must be willing and able to work extra and irregular hours as the utility needs may require, and willing and able to work under unusual or special working conditions such as storms, extreme temperatures, winds, darkness, etc.
Must have sufficient knowledge and skill in the safe use of basic hand tools, power tools, electrical and electronic tools, and electronic test equipment.
Must be willing and able to climb steel structures and work at various heights.
Must be able to work in confined areas.
Tri-State may require you to demonstrate that you can perform the essential job functions.
The Company reserves the right to change the minimum requirements at any time as needed.
