Your role

Launched in 1995, the Réseau de l’information (ICI RDI) is Canada’s premier 24-hour French-language national news channel. With reporters stationed across the country, ICI RDI provides breaking news coverage, in-depth analysis of social issues and high-profile political panel discussions. ICI RDI is committed to deepening its connection with all audiences by delivering high-quality news and information programming in alignment with its national mandate.

Key responsibilities:

Reporting to the Senior Director of ICI RDI, you will lead the editorial programming and scheduling teams while providing editorial vision for managing editors across the network. You will drive the development of new program formats and content distribution strategies, contributing to the ongoing evolution of the all-news channel.

You will design seasonal programming schedules based on management priorities and oversee day-to-day schedule adjustments. Your role will also involve assessing, planning and organizing news and special-event coverage in conjunction with ICI RDI managing editors and their counterparts in other departments.

As Director, you will ensure compliance with CRTC regulatory requirements.

You may also be required to act as the managing editor for specific programs as needed.

This role requires full-time on-site presence.

Job requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience

  • Ten (10) or more years’ journalism experience

  • Proven track record in television programming

  • Significant people management experience

  • Experience managing complex and contentious news stories

  • Change management expertise

  • Creative thinker with a strong sense of initiative

  • Decisiveness and ability to make strategic decisions

  • Leadership

  • Exceptional stress management skills and ability to thrive under pressure

  • Adaptability

  • Ability to gauge and sense the urgency of breaking events

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Excellent command of spoken and written French

  • Intermediate oral, writing and reading proficiency in English

  • Experience in a digital media environment is an asset

  • Knowledge of video streaming platforms

  • Deep understanding of current media trends

  • Flexibility to work a non-traditional schedule as required by news cycles

  • Thorough understanding of CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices (see our website)
