Lead the Architecture Behind Humana’s Next Generation PBM Platform

As a Senior Application Architect, you will play a key strategic role in shaping the technical direction of Humana’s Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) ecosystem—designing scalable, secure, and highly integrated systems that power mission critical healthcare experiences.

This is a high-impact role for an architect who excels at system design, API and integration strategy, technical leadership, and guiding engineering teams toward modern, sustainable solutions.

What You’ll Do

Define & Drive Architecture Strategy

  • Lead the design of application and integration architectures that power Humana’s PBM systems, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, cloud-ready, and aligned with enterprise architecture direction.

Guide Technical Planning & System Design

  • Translate business needs into well‑defined architectural patterns, solution blueprints, and technical roadmaps that support long-term growth and modernization.

Ensure Cohesive, Enterprise-Grade Integration

  • Evaluate and align APIs, data flows, and service interactions across interdependent systems, promoting consistency, reuse, and interoperability across Humana’s technology landscape.

Lead Architecture Governance & Technical Quality

  • Champion architectural standards, conduct design reviews, identify design risks, and provide guidance to engineering teams to ensure solutions meet enterprise expectations for performance, resilience, and maintainability.

Collaborate With Engineering & Leadership

  • Partner with engineering leads, product owners, and enterprise architects to shape platform strategy—advising on tradeoffs, influencing decision-making, and ensuring architectural alignment across teams.

Mentor & Elevate the Technical Organization

  • Coach developers and technical leads on architectural best practices, modern design patterns, and high-quality implementation approaches that improve engineering maturity and delivery velocity.

Who You Are

You are an architect who enjoys:

  • Designing modern, enterprise-scale architectures

  • Tackling integration complexity across large ecosystems

  • Guiding teams toward cleaner, smarter architectural choices

  • Translating business needs into scalable system designs

You’re comfortable operating with autonomy, navigating ambiguity, and making technical decisions that influence multiple teams and systems.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive experience as a senior developer or technical engineer on large-scale IT projects

  • Prior experience as an application architect and/or technical team lead

  • Strong understanding of modern architecture practices (microservices, API-first design, cloud-native patterns, event-driven systems, layered architectures, etc.)

  • A passion for creating technology that improves healthcare and consumer experiences

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field

  • Experience designing architectures in healthcare, PBM, or similarly regulated industries

  • Familiarity with enterprise integration patterns, domain-driven design, or cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)

Work-At-Home Requirements

To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees’ ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees must meet the following criteria:

At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is recommended; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested

Satellite, cellular and microwave connection can be used only if approved by leadership.

Employees who live and work from Home in the state of California, Illinois, Montana, or South Dakota will be provided a bi-weekly payment for their internet expense.

Humana will provide Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees with telephone equipment appropriate to meet the business requirements for their position/job.

Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information.

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.

$106,900 - $147,000 per year

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
