Gould Farm Forestry & Grounds Manager in Monterey, Massachusetts

Forestry & Grounds Manager Reporting to the Director of Operations, this position manages a variety of seasonal outdoor and other work while providing mentoring and support to guests within the Farm?s Work Program. This role leads and coaches Guests, staff, and volunteers in daily forestry, grounds, and housekeeping tasks, as well as coordinating logistics and facilities support as program needs require. Seasonal work includes trail clearing and land management; maintenance of lawn, garden, facilities equipment and furniture; maple syrup production; tree work, wood splitting and processing; and snow and ice management. This role integrates operational work with Gould Farm?s therapeutic program by helping create meaningful, structured work opportunities for Guests that support recovery and community engagement. Must be willing to promote the values and spirit of Gould Farm, to actively participate as a member of the community and to continuously seek ways to improve, both self and function. Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Work Program - Oversee planning of daily, weekly, and seasonal projects related to the maintenance of the Farm?s forestry and grounds. - Supervise, support, coach, and mentor Guests, staff, and volunteers in meaningful and productive work that contributes to the therapeutic mission of Gould Farm. - Create structured and educational work opportunities that support recovery through responsibility, skill development, and participation in the life of the community. - Outline daily responsibilities and guide Guests and staff in tasks assigned to Forestry & Grounds. - Provide logistical support across campus, including moving and disposing of furniture and equipment, clearing storage spaces, and assisting with donation pickups and drop-offs. - Provide housekeeping coverage in the absence of the housekeeper, including stocking supplies and overseeing housekeeping chores in Main House and other buildings. - Ensure proper care, maintenance, and safe use of tools, materials, equipment, and vehicles. - Maintain clean, well-organized workspaces and work areas. - Collaborate with other teams to coordinate shared projects and ensure meaningful work opportunities across programs. Forestry and Land Management - Oversee stewardship of Gould Farm?s land, forests, trails, and outdoor spaces, including sustainable land management practices. - Manage seasonal work including trail clearing and grounds maintenance; upkeep of lawns, gardens, equipment and furniture; maple syrup production; tree work, wood splitting and processing; and snow and ice management in pedestrian areas. - Assess, schedule, and oversee land management work using existing Land Use Plans. - Foster relationships and communication with local foresters and other related organizations in the region and assess opportunities for contracted forestry work. - Participate in committees for land use planning, including the Buildings & Grounds Committee and Landscape Committee. Administration and Operations - Coordinate closely with other teams to support campus operations and shared projects. - Develop long-term plans and team structures in order to meet operational demands while creating meaningful work opportunities for Guests. - Develop and manage the Forestry & Grounds budget and track expenses. - Prepare reports and presentations related to projects and ongoing activities. - Train, supervise, support and evaluate Forestry & Grounds staff and volunteers, including the Assistant Manager and seasonal staff as applicable. - Participate in organizational planning related to land stewardship, facilities maintenance, and campus operations. - Serve on committees or teams supporting program integration, quality assurance, and mission impact. - Participate as a member of the community in social and recreational activities and events. - On-call duties after 6 months of service.
