Commander, Navy Installations MWR Laborer in Monterey, California
Summary This position is in the Morale Welfare and Recreation Department in the Navy Region, Southwest. The incumbent assists in maintaining the Golf Course and surrounding areas. Responsibilities Performs ground maintenance on grades or slopes, dig ditches and trenches using picks and shovels. Operates large industrial power push mower and riding type mower. Adjust blades for cutting height, prepare fuel mixtures for powered equipment and cleans and lubricates mower. Trims prunes, and cuts trees, bushes and plants. Uses various hand tools, such as, shovels, hoes, rakes, and pruning shears Assists with the general clean-up and maintenance of grass areas, planted areas, parking. lots, vacant lots and recreation areas, by removing trash, weeds, and cutting back brush. May operate motor vehicle to get from one work area to another, transporting supplies/equipment and other workers. Performs routine ma int nance procedures for power equipment, conc;lucts safety visual check, lubricates, clea /replaces air filters, and adds fuel. Performs other miscellaneous tasks as required such as hand watering, applying seed or fertilizer to grasses a d plants. May be required to lay sod, plant flowers and shrubs, and spray weed-controlling chemicals. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Knowledge of general groundskeeping skills desired. Skill and knowledge to operate, control and clean heavy power equipment. Capable of using hand tools such as rakes, mowers, clippers, shovels etc. Skill in performing routine operator maintenance and adjusting the cutting height of blades on power mowers.
