*JOB SUMMARY: *
Responsible for performing weed control by spraying City rights-of-way, alleys, parks and other City-owned properties. Under the supervision of the Public Works Director and Streets Supervisor, the technician will mix chemicals according to manufacturer guidelines, prepare water tanks and equipment, and apply chemical to designated areas. Duties include operating trucks, ATV's tractors and towing trailers. This role requires working independently, demonstrating initiative, and adhering to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment. The technician will track treated areas using a tablet or smartphone and maintain detailed records. This is a seasonal, part-time position (May -- September), requiring 20-30 hours per week.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Identification of noxious weeds and other non-desirable weeds
· Mixing and spraying chemical solutions
· Treating, mapping, and monitoring noxious weeds within the city limits
· Use of smartphone devices or tablet to application records, mapping and other related duties
· Use of ATV, tractor, and/or vehicle for applications of chemical to noxious weeds and other non-desirable weeds
· Maintains accurate and detailed records of spray areas and application rates
· All other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required:
· Knowledge of the principles and techniques of chemical application and plant identification.
· Knowledge of applicable safety practices and regulations related to chemical handling, storage, and application.
· Ability to operate computers, tablets, smartphones, and standard office equipment, and to utilize software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, databases and internet-based systems.
· Ability to analyze situations, apply problem-solving strategies, and exercise sound judgment, including recognizing when to escalate issues.
· Ability to read and comprehend a variety of written materials such as manuals, instructions and safety information, perform basic mathematical calculations and accurately record data.
· Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, including providing information, documenting work activities and following written instructions and safety guidelines.
· Ability to accurately maintain records and document work activities, including chemical application logs, treatment areas and related field data.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, other departments and members of the public.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Minimum Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Job Requirements:
· Must be at least 18 years of age
· Education or training in chemicals or agriculture
· Must possess and maintain a valid unrestricted Colo ado driver's license, if not currently held the ability to obtain a Colorado Driver's license by date of hire
· Must be a U.S. Citizen at time of application
· Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check, and drug screen

POSITION DETAILS:
· Temporary, Seasonal, Part-time
· Typical season runs April -- October
· 20-30 hours per week, depending on operational needs
· Non-Benefited position

The work environment for this position primarily involves outdoor settings and may include exposure to various weather conditions and frequent changes in environmental conditions. The essential duties of this role are physically demanding and often require work in areas that may be unclean or challenging to access. Operators can expect regular exposure to machinery noise, including alarms, as well as unpleasant odors. Required to work with and around various chemicals including those that are caustic and can produce adverse fumes. Hand-eye coordination is essential for operating computers and various equipment.
Body Movement
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly sit, stand, walk, and utilize hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls. Stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling is occasional. The employee may be required to frequently carry, pull, push or lift objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
This position will necessitate being around hazardous conditions, including walking on uneven surfaces with the presence of dangerous chemicals, and possibility of malfunctioning equipment.
Vision
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus as well as discriminate colors.
Hearing
Must have the ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sound (e.g., telephones, doorbell, alarms); communicate clearly and effectively; understand and be understood; be able to consistently engage in conversation. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
