Summary You will serve as the Technical Lead in the Entry Systems and Vehicle Development Branch, overseeing the development, testing, and deployment of emerging entry, descent, and landing (EDL) technologies and advanced development activities for future programs while modernizing and improving EDL support of ongoing programs. You will lead high-performing multi-disciplinary teams and interact with key stakeholders for programs such as Artemis, New Frontiers and Discovery, and external partners. Responsibilities Designs and integrates advanced entry, descent, and landing (EDL) technologies, such as new methodologies for characterizing aeroshell performance, novelty entry systems, or EDL instrumentation to provide critical EDL flight data. Coordinates and leads a broad range of activities to ensure EDL technologies in development are fully functional and could meet current and future mission needs. Modernizes and improves entry system competencies that the branch depends on for Agency support, such at post-flight analysis of aeroshells for Artemis or spacecraft entry simulations and aeroshell design for New Frontiers mission proposals. Advises on novel and heritage EDL technologies’ interrelationships with other subsystems and technical areas, including aeroshells, thermal protection systems (TPS), instrumentation, structures, aerothermodynamics, or trajectories. Makes recommendations and implements actions to resolve highly complex EDL problems, including those that involve unconventional or unique integrated systems. Interfaces with key stakeholders within the Agency such as the Orion TPS System Manager, and outside the Agency such as the Defense Department’s Strategic Capabilities Office, and various current and prospective commercial partners. Education Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following: a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus; and that provided an in-depth knowledge of theoretical and practical applications of computer science, including digital computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures, and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations.
