GRAND COUNTY Chief Deputy Treasurer in MOAB, Utah
About the Position:
The Chief Deputy Treasurer performs a comprehensive range of administrative, clerical, and accounting duties essential to the daily operations and statutory obligations of the Grand County Treasurer's Office. In the absence of the County Treasurer, the Chief Deputy assumes statutory authority and responsibility for the department to ensure service continuity and legal compliance.
*Essential Functions: *
- Manage day-to-day department operations to ensure compliance with established policies.
- Oversee the billing and collection of County real property taxes, receipting and depositing all County monies, and securely transporting deposits to local banks.
- Greet and assist general public, loan institutions, mortgage companies, banks, State Tax Commission, title companies, and tax service companies.
- Perform daily, monthly, and annual balancing of financial reports.
- Collects current and delinquent tax payments via mail and over the counter, preparing receipts, and balancing daily cash with bank deposits.
- Assist the Clerk/Auditor in reconciling County General Fund bank statements, credit card transactions, and the Public Treasurer's Investment Fund.
- Retrieves tax information, providing pay-off figures, and conducting records research for banks, mortgage, and title companies.
- Balance monthly bank statements with ledgers, run reports for redeemed and outstanding warrants, and enter all general journal entries.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Knowledge:
- Modern bookkeeping and accounting practices and procedures
- General office maintenance (including record keeping, filing, indexing, etc.)
- Computer format and data entry
- Budgeting, finance, and fiscal management

- Basic office computer software and applications
- In-depth working knowledge of Excel required
- Verbal and written communication
- Use of office equipment

- Develop working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, elected officials, the public, State Tax Commission, and outside agencies.

Qualifications:
- Graduation from high school with course background in bookkeeping, accounting, mathematics, finance, or other related field; and
- Four (4) years of progressively responsible work experience performing above or related fields; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background examination, and possess a valid driver's license.
- Must take the oath of office pursuant to State law and will be bound by the duties and responsibilities therein.
- Must be able to operate 10-key by touch within 6 months of employment.
