Overview

Spend the season working in Missoula’s parks while serving great food and supporting community events.

Join the City of Missoula Parks & Recreation team and help create a welcoming and enjoyable experience for visitors at concession facilities located throughout the parks system. Concession Cooks and Concession Shift Leads prepare food, provide friendly customer service, and help maintain efficient concession operations that support recreation programs, tournaments, and special events.

These roles combine food preparation, teamwork, and customer interaction in a dynamic environment. Concession Shift Leads also assist with supervising staff, coordinating food preparation, and ensuring health, safety, and service standards are consistently met during daily operations.

Essential Functions

CONCESSIONS COOK

  • Execute daily food preparation tasks, including morning prep, restocking items, setting up and closure of line items and steam tables.

  • Comply with the Concession Cook Handbook.

  • Operate various kitchen appliances and handheld equipment, such as ovens, slicers, and fryers.

  • Perform point-of-sale transactions by accepting payment for all food items, while providing in-person customer service to patrons to ensure a positive and welcoming experience.

  • Prepare and handle food in accordance with health and safety standards to ensure consistency, accuracy, and quality of each food item.

  • Maintain food temperatures, freshness, and proper storage to ensure customers have a safe and enjoyable eating experience.

  • Oversee the cleanliness and organization of all concession areas, including outside seating and party areas, by following all SERV Safe Sanitation Guidelines.

  • Greet patrons and complete and deliver accurate food orders in a timely manner.

  • Perform other duties as assigned, based on training and qualifications.

CONCESSIONS SHIFT LEAD

  • Lead a team in providing high-quality food service at designated concession facilities to ensure all operations align with company health, safety, and service standards; manage food preparation; maintain an organized and effective working environment.

  • Assist with training concessions staff.

  • Provide support to staff members, while maintaining effective workflows with a focus on speed, quality, and customer service.

  • Ensure all daily food preparation needs are met; delegate food preparation tasks to staff members.

  • Receive and accurately store food deliveries.

  • Ensure opening and closing procedures for all Parks & Recreation facilities

  • Comply with the Concessions Shift Lead Training Manual.

  • Collaborate with team members to support the creation of new menu items and tournament specials.

  • Ensure the cleanliness and organization of concession facilities; adhere to health and safety guidelines; assign deep cleaning tasks, as necessary.

  • Ensure all health and safety requirements are met in all concession facilities, according to Servsafe guidelines.

  • Perform other duties as assigned, based on training and qualifications.

  • Knowledge of basic point-of-sale and cash handling practices and procedures, with the ability to learn job specific applications and equipment.

  • Knowledge of food preparation and sanitation requirements.

  • Skill in communicating, in person and writing, with the ability to establish and maintain positive effective working relationships with diverse individuals.

  • Ability to adapt to challenges quickly and efficiently with some direction from Shift Lead and/or Management, while meeting needs associated in a non-traditional restaurant setting.

  • Ability to participate in a customer focused and team-oriented environment.

  • Ability to maintain and exhibit integrity and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information.

  • Ability to maintain and foster a culture of professionalism, adhere to departmental and City standards and specifications, and support a positive team environment.

  • Ability to resolve conflicts with facilitating outcomes while maintaining a calm demeanor.

  • Ability to learn departmental and City of Missoula practices and procedures.

CONCESSIONS SHIFT LEAD

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of food management, including product specification, recipe nuances, inventory management, equipment maintenance, menus, staff management, training, etc.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to participate in a customer focused and team-oriented environment, contributing as lead and collaborator.

  • Ability to lead and train staff, when applicable, in various job-specific areas.

  • Ability to adapt to challenges quickly and efficiently with minimum supervision, while meeting needs associated in a non-traditional restaurant setting.

Working Conditions:

ALL POSITIONS

  • Positions require the ability to lift 50 lbs. or less.

  • Work environment may involve occasional exposure to occupational hazards, biohazards, and physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.

  • Duties require the ability to occasionally perform bending, pulling, and squatting motions.

  • Duties are frequently performed where noise, heat, dampness, and/or cold are unavoidable.

  • Positions require schedule flexibility to accommodate weekend shifts.

CONCESSIONS SHIFT LEAD

  • Positions require schedule flexibility to accommodate opening and closing shifts.

Qualifications and Additional Application Materials

ALL POSITIONS

  • Must be of legal age to perform the duties of the positions.

  • ServSafe certification, preferred.

CONCESSIONS COOK

  • Any combination of training and experience with concessions or food preparation.

CONCESSIONS SHIFT LEAD

  • Any combination of training and experience equivalent to three (3) months of restaurant, concessions management experience, or another relevant field.

  • Must have a basic CPR/AED certification, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.

  • Prior experience working at Missoula Park & Recreation facilities, including Currents, Splash Montana, and Fort Missoula Regional Park, preferred.
