Job Title: Financial Analyst

Job Description

The Financial Analyst supports the analysis and consolidation of local planning cycles and provides comprehensive financial support across multiple departments, including Marketing, Commercial, Regulatory, Service, Distribution, and Administration. This role focuses on forecasting, expense management, financial reporting, and process improvement, while partnering closely with departmental leadership and area finance teams to ensure accurate, timely, and insightful financial information that drives sound business decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Support the analysis and consolidation of division local planning cycles and collaborate with departmental management to ensure successful completion of each cycle.

  • Assist in preparing commercial inputs for sales forecasts and expense management in support of financial planning and monthly forecast submissions.

  • Provide financial support and guidance to managers across multiple business units and regional headquarters, answering queries and offering recommendations.

  • Ensure all compliance responsibilities are completed in accordance with established policies and procedures within the assigned areas.

  • Work with the Finance Manager to produce, compile, analyze, and deliver key financial reports, including the Annual Plan, month-end reporting, expense management reports, Latest Best Estimate (LBE), and materials for the monthly Integrated Business Planning (IBP) cycle.

  • Compile and distribute monthly management reports, including key performance indicators (KPIs) and commentary that explain business performance.

  • Assist with local month-end close procedures, including preparation of P&L variance commentary and related analyses.

  • Track, analyze, and report on sales incentive plans, providing clear and accurate financial insights.

  • Ensure all financial deliverables and expectations to area finance are met accurately and on time.

  • Create, maintain, and publish various reports using Power BI, Smartview TM1, and Cognos to support data-driven decision-making.

  • Identify, recommend, and implement improvements to local planning systems, tools, and procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

  • Support ad hoc projects involving financial and accounting analysis, as well as process improvement initiatives across multiple departments.

  • Analyze large data sets in Excel, summarize key insights, and clearly articulate findings to stakeholders, including the sales team.

  • Provide detailed documentation, notes, and instructions on how to perform assigned tasks, ensuring clarity and consistency in processes.

  • Proactively respond to ad hoc requests from various departments, collaborating with stakeholders across divisions to solve problems and provide timely financial information.

  • Engage in networking across the organization to gather information, clarify requirements, and resolve issues effectively.

  • Strive for business excellence by continuously seeking opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting quality, and analytical rigor.

  • Handle confidential financial information with discretion and maintain strict data privacy and security standards.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience in financial analysis, including preparation and interpretation of financial reports and performance metrics.

  • Hands-on experience with forecasting, financial reporting, and variance analysis in a corporate environment.

  • Practical knowledge of journal entries, accruals, and general ledger accounting.

  • Experience with accounts payable processes and related financial workflows.

  • Strong Excel skills, including use of pivot tables, VLOOKUP and HLOOKUP functions, and macros to manage and analyze large data sets.

  • Ability to work confidently with large volumes of financial and operational data and translate findings into clear, actionable insights.

  • Experience supporting month-end close activities, including P&L analysis and variance commentary.

  • Familiarity with SAP or similar ERP systems for financial and accounting processes.

  • Ability to create, maintain, and interpret reports in tools such as Power BI, Smartview TM1, and Cognos.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work proactively and independently on complex tasks.

  • Clear and concise communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders.

  • High attention to detail and accuracy in all financial analyses and reports.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, including recurring month-end tasks and ad hoc requests, within tight deadlines.

  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive financial information responsibly.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Commerce degree with a focus in accounting or finance, or equivalent education.

  • CPA designation or active enrollment in a CPA program.

  • Experience working in a multi-department or divisional environment, supporting functions such as Marketing, Commercial, Regulatory, Service, Distribution, and Administration.

  • Prior involvement in preparing annual plans, latest best estimates (LBE), and integrated business planning (IBP) materials.

  • Experience designing or improving local planning systems, processes, and financial reporting frameworks.

  • Comfort working on ad hoc projects and requests, adapting quickly to changing priorities and information needs.

  • Proven ability to collaborate with sales teams, providing large data sets and meaningful analysis to support commercial decisions.

  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to document processes and create clear instructions for recurring tasks.

  • A continuous improvement mindset, with an interest in enhancing efficiency, automation, and data quality in financial processes.

Work Environment

This role follows a hybrid work model, with the ability to work from home four days per week, including Fridays, and onsite presence as needed at an office located on Century Avenue. Standard working hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., totaling a 40-hour work week. Occasional overtime may be required, particularly in the mornings to update sales numbers shortly before the business day begins and during month-end close blackout periods, which span a couple of weeks each month. The position is part of a small, collaborative finance team that includes other analysts and finance professionals. The environment is fast-paced and data-driven, with frequent interaction across various departments and regular use of tools such as SAP, Excel, Power BI, Smartview TM1, and Cognos. This is a Contract position based out of Mississauga, ON.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $40.00/hr.
