Citigroup Citibank NA Credit Programs and Regulations Director in Mississauga, Ontario

The Credit Programs and Bank Regulations Director manages multiple credit programs and bank regulations for Citibank N.A with a team of highly specialized subject matter experts. This role requires an in-depth understanding of credit risk, controls, and compliance against bank regulations, a strong understanding of the banking sector and the global regulatory environment, as well as a broad understanding of Citibank’s key business areas, products, and services which is necessary in order to contribute to the commercial objectives of the bank.

The role requires a broad-based risk background and thorough understanding of strategic direction of the bank, as well as excellent communication skills in order to negotiate internally at very senior levels.

This person is responsible for building controls and reporting around bank Credit Programs and Regulations and ensuring compliance against policies and procedures. Accountable for strong program governance including oversight of data and reporting. Their impact reflects strategic importance of risk oversight for Citibank, significant influence on the business and interaction with other functions or businesses.

This person is a direct report to the CRO of Citibank N.A. and function as an integral member of the Citibank N.A. CRO’s leadership team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Oversight & Governance:

  • Establish and oversee the application of comprehensive risk policies, advanced technology solutions, and robust governance processes for credit programs and bank regulations.

  • Lead program governance, including direct oversight of data integrity, reporting frameworks, and cross-functional team participation (Data & Reporting, Compliance).

  • Regulatory Compliance & Risk Mitigation:

  • Ensure strict compliance with internal policies, procedures, and global bank regulations, proactively identifying and addressing control issues with transparency.

  • Identify and assess emerging risks in the context of economic, regulatory, and business environments, implementing effective mitigation strategies.

  • Demonstrate strong ethical judgment in all business decisions, safeguarding Citigroup’s reputation, clients, and assets.

  • Leadership & Team Management:

  • Provide full management responsibility for the team of subject matter experts, including performance evaluation, compensation, hiring, disciplinary actions, and budget approval.

  • Effectively supervise team activities, foster accountability, and drive adherence to high standards.

  • Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting:

  • Negotiate and collaborate internally at very senior levels, working closely with colleagues across Risk Management, Finance, Compliance/Control, and business units.

  • Facilitate accurate and appropriate reporting of Citibank N.A.'s risk profile to senior management and the Board of Directors.

  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement:

  • Champion the adoption of technology and AI tools to enhance risk management practices and operational efficiency.

  • Support corporate initiatives, particularly those aligning with the Risk Organization's strategic objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Experience:

  • 15+ years of relevant experience, including credit risk management within a large financial institution.

  • Proven experience in leading and managing diverse, cross-discipline activities and teams.

  • Knowledge of audit, compliance, market risk, and liquidity risk disciplines is a significant plus.

  • Skills:

  • Exceptional Leadership: Demonstrated ability to operate as a leader, fostering an inclusive environment and appreciating diverse backgrounds.

  • Strategic Communication: Excellent negotiation and communication skills, capable of influencing and engaging senior-level stakeholders effectively.

  • Analytical Acumen: Superior analytical ability to ask insightful questions, break down complex challenges, draw meaningful conclusions, and identify root causes.

  • Problem Solving: Proficient in developing innovative solutions to mitigate risk and improve processes, effectively prioritizing high-impact issues.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s/University degree required.

  • Master’s degree preferred.
