Library Assistant, Part Time, Monday - Friday, 4:30pm - 6:30pm
Starting Pay Range:$17.45 - $19.26

Position- Monday - Friday 4:30pm - 6:30pm (10 hours per week)
- GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Assists with the day-to-day operation of the branch including circulation, reference, and material selection and processing, special programming, public computer assistance and outreach. Position may constitute work at the Main Library in various departments and/or at a branch library.

- Gives friendly and helpful service to library users.
- Conducts circulation activity, entering data into computer, searching and checking customer files, including registering new patrons.
- Checks library materials in and out using the library's automated library system.
- Fills requests for reserved materials.
- Performs miscellaneous material collection related duties within context of branch needs.
- Provides research assistance to patrons, helping them to gain access to both manual and computer generated information.
- Provides input into and may be asked to facilitate new and innovative programs to create interest in and enjoyment of the library.
- Performs a wide variety of routine clerical tasks including maintaining records and collecting and recording fines.
- Attends training courses and undertakes special training activities as directed.
- May represent the library at various promotional events and activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED:
The Library Assistant
is supervised by the Library Director and does not supervise others.
- EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Preferred Experience: High School diploma or equivalent required, with college level studies, computer training and library experience highly desired.

Desired Qualifications: A proactive public service initiative with strong communication and interaction skills and the ability to relate to people of all ages. Knowledge, interest and appreciation of literature and other sources of information available at the library. Ability to provide research assistance. Ability to assist in organizing activities and to perform routine tasks. Ability to use computers and perform data entry. Exhibits flexibility and possesses a high degree of patience and tolerance. Willingness to further credentials by additional education and workshops. The qualified candidate must possess a valid driver's license and maintain this license during employment in the position.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and hear. The employee is required to stand, walk and operate a computer. Specific vision requirement required by this job includes close vision and depth perception. The employee must be able to work alone, possess excellent communication skills, and be capable of regularly exercising discretionary powers
- WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position normally works Monday - Friday from 4:30pm - 6:30pm. This position may also be required t work additional hours as determined by the Director.
This position normally works inside in a climate-controlled atmosphere.
- OTHER ASSIGNMENTS:
County Department Heads and supervisors reserve the right to amend the functions assigned this position, either temporarily or permanently, at anytime as they determine the best interest of their department. Further, employees may be assigned other or additional functions to fill-in during the absence of other employees or vacancies in other positions.
