This job description outlines the duties, qualifications, and requirements for a Press and Milling Operator specializing in the operation of machinery used for processing food materials (e.g., pressing fruits for juices/oils, milling grains for flour, or operating size reduction equipment).


Summary

The Food Production Press and Milling Operator is responsible for the safe and precise setup, operation, and sanitation of industrial presses, mills, grinders, and other size reduction or extraction machinery. This role ensures the material is processed according to strict food safety standards and recipe specifications to produce high-quality ingredients or finished food products.


Key Responsibilities
  • Machine Operation and Setup:

    • Set up and operate hydraulic presses, screw presses, crushers, roller mills, hammer mills, or stone mills used in processing food materials (e.g., seeds, grains, fruits, vegetables).

    • Read and interpret processing formulas and work orders to determine run specifications, ingredient flow rates, and required tooling/screens.

    • Load and feed raw food materials into the machines, ensuring proper staging and transfer.

    • Monitor machine parameters (temperature, pressure, feed rate, speed) and make necessary adjustments to optimize yield and product quality.

  • Quality and Safety Compliance (HACCP/GMP):

    • Perform routine quality checks on finished product using specified instruments (e.g., moisture meters, density scales, sieves) to verify particle size, extraction rate, and consistency.

    • Strictly adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and company policies related to food safety, hygiene, and allergen control.

    • Document all production activities, quality control results, and material usage accurately on batch records or digital systems.

  • Sanitation and Maintenance:

    • Perform complete and thorough sanitization (CIP/COP) of all processing equipment, lines, and adjacent areas according to the Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs).

    • Disassemble and reassemble press and milling components safely for deep cleaning and inspection.

    • Conduct basic preventive maintenance and troubleshooting, reporting mechanical issues promptly to the maintenance team.


Qualifications and Skills
  • Experience:

    • Proven experience as a Machine Operator, Process Operator, or similar role, preferably within a food, beverage, or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.

    • Familiarity with food safety programs such as HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) and GMPs is highly desirable.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Mechanical aptitude and proficiency in operating heavy machinery.

    • Ability to accurately read and follow detailed written instructions, including production schedules and cleaning procedures.

    • Basic math skills for calculating measurements, ratios, and percentages.

  • Soft Skills:

    • Strong commitment to personal hygiene and workplace sanitation.

    • Attention to detail regarding quality and food safety standards.

    • Ability to work in various environmental conditions (e.g., noisy, dusty, wet, or temperature-controlled areas).
