Position Description
Participate and supervise Engineering Technicians engaged civil engineering work in the field and office.
This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work with some days working remotely and some days working in the office.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
• Oversee (and work on) the production of engineering designs, construction site plans, specifications and repair and/or replacement plans for City owned facilities using computer assisted design software.
• Oversee and complete work on as built drawings and specifications of completed construction and renovation projects in order to ensure high quality records for future reference.
• Make calculations for a variety of purposes including – construction cost estimation, budgets and in doing survey and measurement work.
• Oversee and assist in the preparation of requisitions and related documents when given parameters for various projects as assigned.
• Perform survey work on proposed construction or repair sites or at completed project sites so that plans and as built records are accurate.
• Monitor and perform inspection and investigation work related to assigned engineering projects in order to evaluate conditions of structures, roadways, bridges, sanitary and storm sewers, etc. and to recommend repairs and/or replacement when needed to ensure safety of existing structures.
• Meet with representatives of various organizations that have authority and/or involvement with construction and repair site plans to convey City policies, issues and concerns and report back to engineering staff when appropriate for direction and input (i.e. Minnesota Department of Transportation, Hennepin County, Utilities' Representatives, Architects, Contractors, etc.).
• Perform inspection and monitoring of on going construction and repair projects to ensure adherence to approved plans.
• Assist in coordination of City work of Hennepin County, State of Minnesota, utilities, private contractors, etc.
• Assist with the preparation of detailed budget requests for construction and repair work activities, including considerable estimation work and preparation of forms and plans for state aide requests.
• May be responsible for the preparation of reports to structure owners for some non-City structures that fall under the jurisdiction of the City.

Minimum Qualifications:
Associate Degree in Engineering Technology or equivalent
Minimum Experience:
Three years of experience performing similar duties
Licenses/Certifications:
Valid Drivers License
Selection Process:
The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience and/or an oral examination (100%). It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions. Only those candidates who attain a passing score(70%)on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. The City of Minneapolis Human Resources Department reserves the right to limit the number in any phase of the selection process.
Background Check:
The City has determined that a criminal background check and/or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title. Applicants maybe required to sign an informed consent form allowing the City to obtain their criminal history and/or verify their qualifications in connection with the position sought. Applicants who do not sign the informed consent form will not be further considered for the position.
Drug and Alcohol Testing:
All job applicants must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test once a conditional offer of employment has been made. Applicants will be required to sign a notification and consent form prior to undergoing drug and alcohol testing. Applicants who do not consent to undergo drug and alcohol testing will not be required to do so and the City will withdraw the conditional job offer, resulting in the job applicant no longer being considered for the position.

Eligible List Statement:
The names of applicants who meet minimum qualification and who pass the screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for employment consideration. This list will be certified to the hiring manager who may use the list to fill a vacancy of the same job title. This eligible list will expire one month after it has been established.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Considerable knowledge of civil engineering design and related computer software packages.
• Some positions require knowledge of and ability to perform modern survey work.
• Good knowledge of and ability to perform mathematical calculations.
• Strong written and verbal skills and ability to produce reports.
• Ability to delegate work.
• Ability to plan and carry out detailed assignments and investigations, and to put together civil engineering and statistical data.
