Strategic Sourcing Specialist – Nuclear Projects (Hybrid, Minnesota)
Position Overview
This role supplements the manager’s existing sourcing team, performing the same strategic sourcing functions as current team members across the nuclear fleet. The resource will support large capital and onsite services projects, managing end-to-end strategic sourcing activities including intake review, contract development, sourcing events, negotiations, execution, and post-award contract management.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in strategic sourcing and supplier management, with the ability to independently manage workload while building strong internal and external relationships.
Key Responsibilities
Review and validate sourcing requests from internal stakeholders
Ensure required information and compliance elements are in place
Conduct vendor risk assessments
Negotiate pricing and contract terms
Run sourcing events (RFPs/bids) as needed
Execute purchase orders and assist with invoice resolution
Manage supplier performance and recovery plans
Maintain nuclear contract records and documentation (life-of-plant retention)
Team & Work Environment
Highly collaborative team environment with strong camaraderie
Self-directed role; candidate must proactively manage backlog and communicate gaps
Works closely with nuclear plant stakeholders, internal requesters, and supplier partners
Work Hours & Location
Standard business hours, approximately 8 hours/day (flexible between 6:00 AM–6:00 PM)
Hybrid schedule: Remote Monday & Friday, onsite Tuesday–Thursday
Office locations include:
414 Nicollet, Downtown Minneapolis
Monticello Nuclear Plant (admin building)
Prairie Island Nuclear Plant (Welch, MN)
Local Minnesota candidates preferred; relocation at candidate’s expense considered
Occasional travel may be required for team meetings (expenses reimbursed)
Requirements
Technical Skills & Experience:
Strategic sourcing or purchasing experience
Contract negotiation and supplier management
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Experience with large projects and complex scopes
SAP experience strongly preferred
Familiarity with Coupa or other e-sourcing / contract management tools preferred
Nuclear industry knowledge a plus
Non-Technical Skills:
Strong written and verbal communication
Negotiation and relationship-building skills
Self-motivated and proactive
Attention to detail
Education / Background:
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Experience in Supply Chain, Project Management, Business, Finance, or Construction/Construction Management fields
Practical experience emphasized over years required
Certifications:
CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management) or equivalent preferred
Candidate Screening Requirements:
Ability to meet nuclear background screening requirements (U.S. citizen, corporate + nuclear screening, drug testing)
