Robert Half Sr. Accountant in Minneapolis, Minnesota
Description We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to join a respected higher education organization in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This hybrid position offers the opportunity to manage core accounting activities while supporting grant-related financial oversight in a collaborative environment. Reporting to the Controller, the role is well suited for someone who enjoys hands-on financial work and is motivated by strong long-term growth potential.
Responsibilities:
• Manage the full accounting cycle, including recording transactions, maintaining accurate ledgers, and supporting timely financial reporting.
• Prepare and review journal entries, account analyses, and reconciliations to ensure the integrity of monthly and year-end results.
• Oversee grant-related accounting tasks by tracking activity, monitoring compliance, and maintaining proper financial documentation.
• Complete bank and balance sheet reconciliations, investigating variances and resolving discrepancies efficiently.
• Assist with month-end close activities by organizing schedules, validating balances, and meeting reporting deadlines.
• Partner with the Controller and internal stakeholders to improve reporting accuracy and support key financial decisions.
• Maintain financial records within PeopleSoft and use Excel to analyze data, prepare reports, and support ongoing accounting operations. Requirements • At least 3 years of accounting experience, with demonstrated success in a senior-level or progressive accounting role.
• Strong working knowledge of general ledger activity, journal entries, and full-cycle accounting processes.
• Experience performing account, bank, and balance sheet reconciliations with a high degree of accuracy.
• Familiarity with month-end close procedures and financial statement support activities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for analysis, reporting, and reconciliation tasks.
• Experience using PeopleSoft or a comparable ERP system in an accounting environment.
• Background in grant accounting, non-profit accounting, or higher education finance is highly valued.
