Sample Processing Technician

Job Description

This position is responsible for executing excellence in sample processing and comminution techniques in a high-volume, fast-paced commercial lab. Sample preparation is the first stage of the sample life cycle, and it is crucial that all steps (processing, aliquoting, labelling, and storage) are completed correctly to ensure the accuracy of lab testing.

Responsibilities

  • Follow preparation techniques for the processing of samples for lab testing, including the use of grinding mills and other comminution techniques such as blenders, Magic Bullet grinders, and liquid nitrogen.

  • Ensure accurate labeling of sample cups with assigned unique identifiers.

  • Record sample preparation techniques and delivery details into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) software.

  • Split role between sample processing and dishroom lab area. Maintain glassware cleanliness for all lab groups.

  • Work with all lab groups to ensure glassware is cleaned and returned based on specific lab needs.

  • Maintain a clean and organized working area to ensure glassware is dropped off and returned in the correct area.

  • Maintain organizational structure of samples by accurately delivering and disposing of samples as necessary.

  • Execute submission requests through third-party labs by logging samples and preparing them for shipment.

  • Follow all lab safety and quality requirements and procedures, including PPE, GMP, OSHA, and ISO standards.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a lab setting or an AS degree in a science-related field.

  • AS or BS degree in a science-related field.

  • Ability to use multiple computer systems, including LIMS and Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to lift 40 pounds and stand for 5-6 hours daily.

  • Able to complete various tasks while wearing required PPE, including face shields, hearing protection, steel-toed shoes, OSHA-approved safety glasses, laboratory coat, and cryogenic gloves.

Work Environment

This position involves potential exposure and contact with common food, environmental, and chemical allergens. The work schedule consists of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. There are two shifts: 7-3 and 9-5, and the shifts alternate during the week, so availability for both is required. The lab environment is part of a large team (roughly 10-12) in the lab prep area. Steel-toed shoes are required. Additionally, core summer hours may allow for shorter days on Fridays and longer days Monday through Thursday, depending on the lab group. Holiday pay is provided for the six major holidays.

This is a Contract position based out of Minneapolis, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
