Job Title: MIG Welder – Aluminum & Sheet Metal Fabrication

Job Description

This role focuses on high-volume MIG welding of primarily aluminum components for building products in a production manufacturing environment. You will perform horizontal and vertical welds on a variety of materials and thicknesses, inspect your own work, and contribute to a collaborative fabrication team that values quality, consistency, and flexibility.

Responsibilities

  • Perform horizontal and vertical MIG welding on a variety of materials, with approximately 90% aluminum, 6% steel, and 3% stainless steel.

  • Weld materials ranging from 18-gauge sheet metal to 3/8" thickness, maintaining consistent quality and bead appearance.

  • Use a variety of welding wires, including .360 wire, 4043 wire, 5356 wire, and .035 wire as needed for different applications.

  • Perform a small amount of TIG welding as required for specific projects or components.

  • Read and interpret weld blueprints and welding symbols to understand job requirements and specifications.

  • Inspect your own welds using visual inspection methods to ensure they meet quality and safety standards.

  • Produce welds that meet certification requirements where applicable and follow established procedures.

  • Work in a production-focused environment to fabricate building products such as access doors, entrance grates, floor doors, fire cabinets, roof hatches, smoke vents, and stair treads and nosings.

  • Use hand tools and grinding equipment to prepare, finish, or clean welds and fabricated parts.

  • Collaborate with a team of 4–5 welders on your shift, supporting a team-first culture and sharing best practices.

  • Maintain a clean and organized welding bay and follow all safety rules and facility guidelines.

  • Operate welding and fabrication equipment provided by the company and report any maintenance or safety concerns.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year of welding experience, gained either through formal schooling or on-the-job work.

  • Proficiency in MIG welding in both horizontal and vertical positions.

  • Ability to read and interpret weld blueprints and welding symbols.

  • Experience welding aluminum in a production or fabrication environment.

  • Ability to work with sheet metal and various material thicknesses from 18-gauge to 3/8".

  • Familiarity with using wire feed welding equipment.

  • Capability to perform visual inspection of welds to assess quality and conformity.

  • Comfort working with mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum materials.

  • Ability to use hand tools and grinding equipment safely and effectively.

  • Willingness to perform production-style welding in a manufacturing setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 3+ years of welding experience, either from school or on-the-job, is preferred.

  • Experience with fabrication work, including fitting and assembly of welded components.

  • Production MIG welding for building products or similar manufactured goods.

  • Experience with flux core welding processes.

  • Strong blueprint reading skills for fabrication and assembly work.

  • Comfort working in a high-volume manufacturing environment with set production goals.

Work Environment

This role is based in a large manufacturing facility that produces a wide range of building products, including access doors, entrance grates, floor doors, fire cabinets, roof hatches, smoke vents, and stair treads and nosings. The environment includes assembly, warehouse, and fabrication areas and is more industrial than clean-room, reflecting an active production setting. Each welder works in a dedicated welding bay on the manufacturing floor, with welding equipment provided except for the helmet. The facility operates with a strong culture and team-first mentality, and many employees have long tenure in the fabrication areas. This is primarily production-style work with a focus on consistency and throughput. The facility maintains a strict no-smoking policy anywhere on the property. Dress is typical for industrial welding and fabrication, with appropriate protective clothing and safety gear required while working on the floor.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of MINNEAPOLIS, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.05 - $24.05/hr.
