Job Description
The Lab Technician supports research and development and quality control activities by logging samples, performing analytical testing, monitoring product condition, and maintaining the laboratory. This role works closely with the R&D and QC teams to support blending and packaging operations for high‑performance petroleum products, using instrumental analysis to ensure reliability and conformance to specifications. The Lab Technician also participates in production floor checks and contributes to maintaining high workmanship and lab quality standards throughout the full product life cycle.
Responsibilities
Log and receive samples accurately, ensuring proper labeling, barcoding, and traceability throughout the testing process.
Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests across the full product life cycle, including but not limited to FTIR, viscosity, density, pour point, cold crank, XRF, and ICP analyses.
Conduct wet chemistry procedures such as pipetting, titrations, and other bench‑scale techniques to support condition monitoring and product evaluation.
Monitor product condition and support day‑to‑day testing activities to verify conformance to specifications and support initial start‑up authorization.
Assist and collaborate with the quality department, serving as backup support for quality control testing and production floor checks as needed.
Operate, calibrate, validate, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
Generate and record test results using the LIMS system, preparing test reports and documentation as required.
Maintain meticulous records of results, continuing results logs, and all associated reports to uphold lab quality standards.
Support the blending and packaging functions by providing timely analytical data and feedback to operations and R&D teams.
Perform general lab upkeep, including maintaining a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
Participate in team meetings to review data, discuss findings, and align on project and production priorities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
Completion of Organic Chemistry coursework, including associated laboratory work.
Proficiency with wet chemistry techniques, including pipetting and titrations.
Ability to perform and interpret tests such as FTIR, viscosity, density, pour point, cold crank, XRF, and ICP, or strong aptitude to learn these methods quickly.

This is a Contract position based out of Minneapolis, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
