Position Description
The City of Minneapolis Elections & Voter Services is a division of the Office of the City Clerk whose purpose is to support access to local government. We administer local, state, and federal elections for Minneapolis voters.
We are hiring for Front Desk Administrative Support (up to 1 position)
The City Clerk’s Office is looking to fill up to one (1) temporary Front Desk Administrative Support (Seasonal Elections Support Specialist) position. This position will work under the direction of administrative staff to serve as one of the first points of interaction for our visitors; in-person, over the phone, and through electronic communication. The Front Desk Administrative Support staff will also complete various clerical duties, use the Statewide Voter Registration System (SVRS) and Election Management System (EMS), provide support for other programs as needed, and special projects as needed.
This is a full-time (30-50+ hours per week), temporary positions scheduled for June 1, 2026 – December 31, 2026, covering the following scheduled elections:
August 11, 2026, State Primary Election
November 3, 2026, General Election
Note:Anticipated starting salary range: $24.107 - $26.075/hr., depending on qualifications.
Work Location:This position will work onsite at Minneapolis Elections & Voter Services: 980 E Hennepin Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55414.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Manage the front desk and entrance area, controlling traffic through the office.
Provide quality customer service by answering questions regarding election services from in-person visitors, emails, phone calls, and mail. Includes screening inquiries and routing to the appropriate personnel or departments as appropriate.?
Prepare and handle election materials (file folders, books, documents, mail, records, etc.) for filing, storage, shelving, distribution, or destruction
Requisition, verify, distribute, and maintain an inventory of office supplies.
Process Lagan/311 requests from Minneapolis residents.
Type or use word processing software, spreadsheets or databases to produce documents with timeliness, accuracy, neatness, and judgment for intended distribution. Can include communications to public, meeting agendas, meeting notes, and division wide schedules.
Assist in cleaning and maintaining Elections & Voter Services space(s).
Support the hiring and onboarding process for other temporary election workers.
Perform a wide range of clerical duties related to election operations which may include, but are not limited to: filing, support of election judge training activities; support of election judge recruitment and scheduling; support roles at various absentee voting locations throughout Minneapolis as necessary; support roles at elections warehouse.
Complete various projects at the request of the Professional Level Staff in the division and City Clerk’s Office.
Perform data entry where details and accuracy are essential.
Learn and effectively utilize new software systems.
Work cooperatively as a member of a diverse team.
Follow statute, law, City code, policy, procedure, and guidelines.
Inventory, prepare, and categorize election equipment.
May be assigned to assist in other programs within elections or within the City Clerk's office as needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office setting with occasional field work; may involve assignments and travel to and from various Minneapolis Election sites such as additional early vote centers and health care facilities, including outdoor and/or warehouse-related activities.
Pursuant to Minnesota Statute §204C.06, Subd. 8, news media are granted access to polling places, and as part of the normal duties of this position, individuals may be recorded or appear in the background of media interviews or footage while performing their work; this is an inherent requirement of the position.
Required Qualifications
Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent; or currently attending high school.
Eligible to vote in MN:
Must be at least 18 years of age;
Able to read, write, and speak English;
Cannot be a candidate, or the spouse, parent, stepparent, child, stepchild, sibling or step- sibling of a candidate on the ballot;
Cannot be domiciled, either permanently or temporarily, with any candidate on the ballot and;
Cannot be a candidate in the election.
Minimum Experience:One year of customer service
Licenses/Certifications: Election Judge Training provided.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience working in elections.
Experience working in customer service roles.
Selection Process
The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience 100%. It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions. Only those candidates who attain a passing score 70% on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. The City of Minneapolis Human Resources Department reserves the right to limit the number in any phase of the selection process.

The City has determined that a criminal background check and/or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title. • Excellent customer service/communication skills, both written and verbal.

• Knowledge of accepted business English usage, punctuation, spelling and math.
• Knowledge of office practices, policies, and procedures as they relate to the assigned program. Proficiency on computers, to include word processing, spreadsheets, and database programs.
