Job Description
The Commercial Products & Partnerships team of American Express International (Japan) is dedicated to developing and enhancing both new and existing commercial product capabilities for the Small Business Services (SBS) and Corporate segments, leveraging American Express’s internal and external resources. This role is responsible for developing new business features through partnerships and capabilities as well as project management across both the SBS and Corporate segments.
We are seeking a manager who fosters a culture that encourages thoughtful experimentation, calculated risk‑taking, and rapid learning, and who can deliver high‑impact new products and services while effectively manage various commercial projects to help American Express continue winning in the commercial segments.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong sense of ownership as a self‑starter, effective project management capabilities, and excellent skills in managing both internal and external stakeholders. Proficient communication skills in both Japanese and English are required.
Responsibilities
• Develop and implement strategic plans for new commercial capabilities.
• Drive new product initiatives that expand commercial transaction and cash flow solutions beyond traditional card rails.
• Lead and Manager key projects that as project leader for commercial segments.
• Proactively embrace a mindset of experimentation and continuous learning to identify new business opportunities through the study of international best practices and in‑depth customer and competitor analyses.
Qualifications
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to influence, challenge, and drive change in both Japanese and English.
• Proven track record of leading, or being deeply involved in, the delivery of new partnerships or products.
• Robust project management expertise, particularly in new product or partnership development.
• Self‑motivated, with demonstrated capability in strategic planning supported by advanced, data‑driven analytical skills.
• Open‑minded and adaptable, with a strong willingness to acquire new knowledge and skills.
• Fluency in written and spoken Japanese, and business‑level proficiency in English.
• While not required, prior working experience with a bank, alternative or consumer finance provider, or a closely related industry is highly preferred.
