The Project Coordinator provides classroom- and teacher-facing support for the implementation of MKE Roots curriculum and pedagogies in Milwaukee County classrooms as part of federally funded programming to improve history and civics education in Milwaukee classrooms. The Project Coordinator will lead MKE Roots curriculum development; facilitate pilot programming in partner K12 classrooms; plan and facilitate professional development for the MKE Roots Educators Network; conduct case study research and instructional coaching sessions in network classrooms; and support program research and evaluation. The Project Coordinator is the primary point of contact for participating teachers and partner programs and thus needs to be an educational peer and partner with collaborating teachers and community organizations. Ultimately, the Project Coordinator is facilitating the improvement of classroom instruction towards rigorous and relevant history and civics learning. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Curriculum Development: Build teaching materials (unit plans, lesson plans, journey boxes, field experiences, and inquiry activities) to accompany the place-based, digital pins in the MKE Roots Ecosystem; provide feedback on curriculum materials written by undergraduate interns and graduate assistants; collaborate with community partners on curriculum development. 2. Pilot Programming: Facilitate weekly pilot programming at K12 partner schools within Milwaukee County; mentor and collaborate with additional facilitators; design pilot programming and document programming through curriculum materials; seek opportunities to develop future pilot programming. 3. Professional Development: Co-plan MKE Roots PD offerings, including the weeklong Summer Seminar, A250 Seminar Series, and Community of Practice meetings; co-facilitate monthly Community of Practice meetings for MKE Roots Educators Network. 4. Instructional Support: Conduct classroom observations of MKE Roots teachers and lead MKE Roots teachers through the instructional coaching cycle; provide classroom-level support for MKE Root Educators Network (e.g., planning field experiences, accessing curriculum resources, problem-solving classroom dilemmas); modeling and co-facilitating MKE Roots lessons in MKE Roots classrooms, as requested by teachers. 5. Research & Evaluation: Conduct case study observations of MKE Roots classrooms, documented through field notes; lead analysis of students\' pre- and post-programming assessments; collaborate with Research and Evaluation team to code and interpret qualitative classroom data; assist R&E Team in analyzing quantitative survey data. 6. Logistics & Operations: Coordinate programming logistics between MKE Roots and school districts in Milwaukee County; maintain communication and deepen relationships with community partner; attend weekly team meetings with MKE Roots team. 7. Supervision: Responsible for the supervision of student employees which includes but is not limited to hiring, training, disciplinary actions, ending the student\'s assignment, etc. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Bachelor\'s degree in history, political science, education, communications, sociology, or related fields. - A minimum of one year of experience. - Professional experience in K12 classrooms and serving urban youth (in the classroom or in community settings). - Familiarity with Wisconsin model academic standards, especially in social studies and civics. - Group facilitation experience, especially facilitating critical conversations in educational settings. - Experience developing curriculum, teaching materials, programming, and/or enrichment opportunities for K12 students. - Effective and empathetic communication skills. Excellent written communication skills. Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Master\'s degree in history, political science, education, communications, sociology, or related fields. - Supervisory experience. - Fluent in Spanish. - Three plus years teaching K12 social studies, English, history, writing, community service, or civics (in a subject-specific or general education classroom). - Experience conducting instructional coaching or peer-to-peer teaching feedback. - Experience facilitating rigorous & relevant civic education. - Project management experience. - Research knowledge: critical educational research, especially in K12 classrooms. - Pedagogical knowledge: inquiry methods, Socratic seminars, document-based work (including in primary grades). - Professional knowledge: instructional coaching framework(s) & effective professional development models.
