Aerotek Mechanical Assembler in Milton, Ontario

Job Title: Mechanical Assembler (Switchboard) Days - Project

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Assembler to join our team and work as part of a crew to assemble, fit, and mount mechanical components into heavy switchboard structures. The ideal candidate will possess medium to advanced assembly skills, with experience in using power assembly tools such as power impact wrenches and torque guns. You will be responsible for reading and following engineering drawings and 3D models.

Responsibilities

  • Construct large switchboard structures and subassemblies using pre-fabricated metal parts, following engineering schematics and electrical drawings.

  • Mount and brace horizontal and vertical copper bus, risers, and bus supports inside structures.

  • Utilize ladders, punch presses, band saws, pump trucks, compressed air lines, and over 30 different tools, including power impact wrenches and torque tools.

  • Construct pallets according to engineering design requirements.

  • Ensure strong assembly fundamentals are used at all times, including the use of proper hardware, applying correct torque, and using consistent fastening methods.

  • Identify design issues in mechanical and electrical schematics and report them through the proper channels.

  • Visually inspect parts and materials before and after assembly for conformance to drawings, quality standards, and customer specifications, and make mechanical adjustments as needed.

  • Check parts picked or delivered against those required using the bill of materials, resolving any discrepancies with the Team Lead.

  • Repair or rework issues detected during the inspection/test stage of the job.

  • Cross-train and backfill other employees/job functions as necessary.

  • Work according to CSA and UL code.

  • Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the internal kanban and MRB processes.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a mechanical assembler using power tools.

  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and one-line diagrams.

  • Experience using power impact wrenches and torque guns.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High aptitude for mechanical work.

  • Ability to visualize and plan the assembly of a switchboard structure based on drawings provided.

  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, changing environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a production facility with a loud production environment in some areas. The facility is clean and spacious, and the work involves an afternoon shift from 3:30 pm to 11:00 pm.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $25.00/hr.
