Under the direction of the Senior Recreation Manager, the Recreation Shift Lead provides shift supervision in carrying out retail recreation services and facility access for the public in the activities of ice skating, roller skating, splash pad, sport climbing, and other forms of active and passive entertainment at Millcreek Common. This position is responsible for providing operational oversight, staffing support, and customer relations leadership.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Supervise Adventure Hub operations for retail/rental of skates, climbing gear, and other recreation equipment.

2. Manage credit card and cash monetary transactions including balancing the till and delivering cash daily to the Finance Department for bank deposit processing.

3. Manage Adventure Hub day-to-day and event inventory, supported by use of asset management digital platforms.

4. Enforce policies and required conduct for access to entertainment provided at Millcreek Common.

5. Supervise the delivery of passive entertainment and services offered at Millcreek Common (e.g. WiFi access, ambient music, outdoor furniture, table games, etc.)

6. Co-manage relationships and communications with the public.

7. Respond to and resolve the great majority of customer and operational issues before escalating to the Recreation Manager.

8. Supervise and support the Recreation Crew Members. Assist in scheduling, rostering, training, and onboarding of Adventure Hub staff and city volunteers.

9. Ensure adequate performance of day-to-day contractor-provided services.

10. Assist with Millcreek Common venue tours for client partnerships and planning purposes.

11. May be assigned to assist with daily summer camp operations and scheduling needs; communicate effectively with summer campers, staff, and supervisors.

12. May be assigned supervise and engage summer campers ages 6--12 during roller skating, rock climbing, and other recreation activities.

13. May be assigned to lead games, warm-ups, and age-appropriate group activities while maintaining a fun, positive, and inclusive environment.

14. May be assigned to ensure summer camper safety by enforcing rules, assisting with safety gear, and providing support during activities.

15. May be assigned to monitor summer camper behavior, help resolve minor conflicts, and encourage teamwork and participation.

16. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Education and Experience: 

a. Graduation from high school or GED;

b. Two (2) years' experience operating retail, commercial, or public recreation activities or services, private and/or public events and/or their services (e.g., retail services, recreation host, food and beverage, logistics, accommodation, banquet, production services, etc.).

c. At least one (1) year experience in a team supervisory role.

 

  1. Special Qualifications:

a. CPR/First Aid Certification a plus (or willingness to obtain).

b. Experience working with children ages 6-12 preferred.

 

  1. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

a. Ability to provide high-level customer service and friendly interaction with the public, even in stressful situations.

b. Ability to make decisions and use good judgment.

c. Ability to make and keep good working relationships with co-workers, contractors, volunteers, and the public.

d. Ability to operate a personal computer, tablet, and/or sales transaction devices.

e. Competency using Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).

f. Competency in communicating clearly in English with City personnel and the public, both erbally and in writing.

g. Ability to follow instructions and reliably manage established processes and policies.

h. Ability to help lead the Adventure Hub team, share responsibilities, work collaboratively to keep activities running smoothly, and operate self-sufficiently.

i. Ability and willingness to train and to transfer knowledge to co-workers, volunteers, and contractors.

j. Knowledge of or ability to safely participate in and assist with physical recreation activities, including roller skating and climbing (training provided).

k. Demonstrate a positive, energetic attitude with the ability to motivate and encourage children of all skill levels while maintaining responsibility and awareness.

WORKING CONDITIONS

1. Environment: Work is performed in a mixed environment of standard office and outdoors on-venue at Millcreek Common. The nature of community recreation and events requires this position to work outside of traditional work-week hours and days.

2. Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in transitional settings between sitting at a workstation, standing at the customer service counter, and being active on foot outdoors for several hours in the recreation space. Employee must be able to lift at least 25 lbs. and handle more weight with the assistance of logistics equipment. Other physical requirements include stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and twisting, and lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling light to moderate amounts of weight. Employee must be able to effectively communicate to exchange information and to operate office equipment requir ing repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including the use of a computer keyboard and mouse.

4. Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.

5. Attendance: The Granite Credit Union Adventure Hub, located on Millcreek Common, is the employee's headquarters and primary location for work. Due to the nature of this position, incumbent must be available to work afternoon/evening shifts, weekdays, weekends, and some holidays. Employee is expected to maintain contact with City Hall during shifts that overlap normal business hours Monday through Friday and to operate self-sufficiently outside of these hours.
