The salary range for this position takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

 

At WGU, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their position, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is:

Job Description

The Academic Coach applies the approved coaching model to coach in key skill areas that support student's goal attainment in academics, career, and life. Student learning and development is the Academic Coach's primary responsibly and focus. This position focuses on one or more core academic areas such as quantitative skills, effective writing, college success skills, and social and emotional skills that build resiliency in the student. Academic Coaches are responsive to learner needs and vary the type, length, method, and intensity of support to best match the learner's strengths and goals. Using technology, Academic Coaches may interact with students in both group and one-on-one settings.  They collaborate with instructional and program faculty serving the students in their courses to ensure continuity and quality of support.

 

Responsibilities

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provides individual and group coaching assistance to students using the approved coaching framework, which includes study skills, college success strategies, and subject matter support.

  • Collaborates with faculty and staff to develop coaching support and programming that will promote successful outcomes for the students in a variety of courses.

  • Plans, designs, and conducts workshops and programming to provide additional academic coaching for students.

  • Applies a holistic, solutions-oriented coaching approach to help students identify what they want to achieve, define success measures, and develop the best path toward those goals.

  • Guides student-centric discussions that empower students to formulate individualized approaches and solutions to their unique academic challenges.

  • Helps students uncover the root cause of academic issues while providing tools and instruction to help students develop the necessary skills and habits for academic success

  • Guides students in developing, practicing, and mastering academic tools, skills, and habits that teach students to be accountable for their actions and results.

  • Researches and analyzes data related to coaching program use that is used to evaluate student outcomes.
