General Motors Senior Software Design Release Engineer in Milford, Michigan
Job Description
The Role:
The Low Voltage Energy Source, Software & Integration team is now hiring for a Senior Software Design Release Engineer! This role contains a high level of responsibility with limited formal authority providing excellent opportunities for developing and honing the skill of influencing others. In addition, it includes a high level of written and oral communication with higher levels of leadership such as directors and chief engineers. The role also requires a balanced mix of technical engineering and leadership skills.
Some controller specific responsibilities of the SW DRE include working with PMO for the creation of the overall project plan covering all applications that use that controller, creating and managing the ADV plan, ensuring controller validation CG testing plans are created, executed and reviewed, releasing controller parts to production and service, ensuring vehicle specific I/O matrices and schematics are reviewed, and acting as the primary communication interface between VMEC engineering and the Vehicle Program Team, Customer Care and Aftersales, and the Vehicle Assembly Plants.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities):
Ensure energy source and distribution controllers product development and release plans are created and executed in adherence to engineering standard work.
Track and report status on deliverables.
Develop recovery plans as needed for CGs, PRTSs, etc.
Responsible for running SW PDT, managing component feature rollout plan to VeSCoM timing, Update VCAM for SW updates.
Act as a product manager and primary interface with customers (e.g. vehicle program teams or vehicle assembly plants) and development partners (e.g. calibration teams, validation teams, or suppliers) of the specific product of responsibility; includes tracking and reporting status of deliverables.
Comprehend and review CG Test reports that are delivered by supplier validation teams.
Lead and support product issue investigations (Problem Resolution Tracking System – PRTS).
Lead and support continuous process improvements, best practices, lessons learned, and quality improvement initiatives.
Support standard meetings related to specific responsibilities (e.g. Software Execution Team Meeting or Controller Integration Team Meeting).
Provide technical leadership ensuring issue resolution and appropriate technical direction for products of responsibility.
Train, coach, mentor other team members in areas of strong competency.
Responsible for following GM’s SW Engineering best practices, holding suppliers accountable and providing evidence of compliance or adherence to the standards.
Responsible for ensuring supplier SW and Cal release to SPR and interfacing with SW integration teams for VeSCoM planning.
Minimal travel required.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
Technical:
Bachelors degree (or higher) in one or more of the following engineering degrees: Electrical, Computer, Computer Science, Mechanical, Mathematics, or Chemical.
5+ years of experience in embedded controls development in areas such as controller hardware design, sensor and actuator design, algorithm design, software development, calibration, integration, testing and validation, electrical architecture design, etc.
Non-Technical:
Demonstrated proficiency in project management skills.
Experience leading feature development and teams.
High level of accountability and quality mindset.
Experience working within Agile SW development framework.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
Higher levels of education, e.g. M.S. in a field of Engineering, MBA, or PhD.
DFSS Black Belt Certification.
Scaled Agile Framework training or certifications.
Prior experience in manufacturing.
Prior experience in negotiating.
Prior experience in releasing parts to production.
Demonstrated ability to work in a Global environment.
Power Electronics background.
SW development background or familiarity with leading Supplier SW development.
