General Motors Engineering Group Manager – Virtual Cloud Platform in Milford, Michigan
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Engineering Group Manager (EGM) – Virtual Cloud Platform to join our Virtualization & Embedded Software Development Tools team. Our mission is to develop tools and cloud applications that automate and accelerate the development of in-vehicle infrastructure and application software. As the EGM, you will lead a cross-functional team of developers and collaborate across organizational boundaries to ensure the virtual platform meets all functional, performance, and scalability requirements.
Responsibilities
Team Leadership: Lead a multi-disciplinary team across software, systems, cloud infrastructure, and IT to develop and operate the industry-leading SOLE virtual test and calibration platform.
Product Ownership: Act as the Product Directly Responsible Individual (DRI), ensuring alignment with IT strategy and enterprise technical requirements.
Operational Oversight: Oversee Technical Architecture Diagram (TAD) approvals, track cloud expenditures, and project scalability needs to meet business demands.
Stakeholder Partnership: Partner with MSP and VMEC teams to define developer requirements and drive the development of virtualization capabilities for infrastructure and application software testing.
Platform Reliability: Collaborate with IT, Infrastructure, and cloud service providers to ensure 24/7 platform availability and adherence to security best practices.
Supplier Management: Manage strategic supplier relationships, including SOWs and Enterprise License Agreements.
Qualifications – Required
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a relevant engineering discipline.
Experience: 10+ years of experience in a relevant field.
Cloud Migration: Proven experience with on-premises-to-cloud and cloud-to-cloud migration projects.
Deployment: Hands-on experience deploying and maintaining complex applications in cloud environments.
Languages: Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, Python, Java (Quarkus), or SystemC.
Tooling: Deep knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS), containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes).
Security: Strong understanding of cloud cybersecurity standards and industry best practices.
DevOps: Expertise in designing and maintaining Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
Leadership: Demonstrated success in leading complex projects through high levels of ambiguity to completion.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Qualifications – Preferred
Advanced Degree: Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science or a relevant engineering discipline.
Experience: 15+ years of experience in a relevant field.
Management: Direct experience managing technical software development teams.
Certification: AWS, Azure, or GCP professional certifications.
Build Systems: Familiarity with software development build processes and associated automation tools.
Automotive Tech: Familiarity with automotive communications (CAN, LIN, Ethernet, SPI).
Industry Tools: Experience with automotive tools such as Vector CANape/CANoe, dSpace SystemDesk, VEOS, AutoVal, or Intrepid Vehicle Spy.
