Snyder County Commissioners Custodian in Middleburg, Pennsylvania
The government of Snyder County exists to serve the citizens of the County, directly or indirectly, in various capacities. General Definition:
The Custodian is responsible for cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining the Snyder County Courthouse. This position requires independent work, often in an empty building after most staff leave at 4:00 pm, and demands reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to safely and efficiently manage custodial tasks without direct supervision.
Responsibilities:
- Perform general cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing surfaces.
- Clean and restock restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and paper supplies.
- Empty trash and recycling receptacles and ensure proper disposal.
- Maintain floors, carpets, and stairways to ensure a clean and safe environment.
- Assist with setting up or tearing down rooms for meetings or events, as needed.
- Monitor and restock cleaning supplies and notify supervisor when reordering is necessary.
- Perform minor maintenance tasks (changing light bulbs, reporting needed repairs, etc.).
- Secure the building at the end of the shift, ensuring all doors and windows are locked.
- Follow safety procedures and use proper protective equipment when handling cleaning supplies.
- Respond to any urgent cleaning or custodial needs that arise during the shift.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Reliability in maintaining assigned schedule and duties.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
- Good communication skills and ability to interact respectfully with County staff and the public when present.
- Physical stamina to perform custodial work, including lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, standing, and walking for extended periods.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry cleaning equipment, trash bags, and supplies (up to 50 lbs).
- Ability to climb stairs, bend, stoop, and reach overhead.
- Ability to operate custodial equipment such as vacuums, floor buffers, and carpet cleaners.
- Ability to work alone in an empty building for extended periods.
Minimum Training and Experience:
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Experience:
- Prior custodial or janitorial experience preferred but not required.
- Experience working independently is a plus.
COMPENSATION: Grade 6 (Starting at $15.57 per hour) HOURS: 40 per Week (12:00 pm -- 8:30 pm, Monday--Friday)
