CSI Support & Development Certification Clerk in Middle River, Maryland

Job Description

The Certification Clerk ideally has a working knowledge or willingness to learn HUD guidelines and regulations set forth in HUD Handbook 4350.3 REV-1 and subsequent notices, including rent calculation, eligibility, verification, recertification, tenant screening, and Fair Housing.

The Certification Clerk supports various properties in meeting occupancy goals and certification requirements across the portfolio. Certification Clerks interact directly with current members and resident volunteers to achieve maximum occupancy and compliance with various program requirements (i.e. HUD, LIHTC, HOME, etc.) certification/recertification requirements and helps troubleshoot occupancy and certification problems as requested.

  • Certifying and recertifying applicants and tenants.

  • Using customer service skills to take resident requests, address resident concerns, and resolve them quickly.

  • Maintaining professional demeanor at all times.

  • Using exceptional multitasking skills to streamline processes and effectively manage daily tasks.

  • Performs clerical tasks such as filing, typing, telephone and computer input

  • Accurately process information and documents to ensure methods are coordinated

  • Ability to organize information in a predetermined format for submission to supervisors in connection with reporting requirements.

  • Processing monthly assistance reports

  • Establishing and maintaining all files of current members

  • Other jobs duties as assigned by supervisor

Work environment

Certification Clerks generally work in an office environment.

Physical demands

This position requires sitting at a desk for extended periods of time and significant amount of time on the phone.

  • Must be able to push/pull/lift up to 30 pounds

    Travel required

    May need to travel to co-ops on occasion.

    Required education and experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Excellent follow-up skills via telephone or internet.

  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and reliable.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite

  • Must know, comprehend, and practice Federal Fair Housing Laws.

  • Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Have a desire to become a Certified Occupancy Specialist

  • Must pass all sections of the Assisted Housing Manager (AHM) certification exam

  • Must be willing to undergo training and take direction and support from Certification staff

    Work authorization/security clearance requirements

    Department of Homeland Security (DHS) regulation requires all employees—citizens, residents, and nonresidents—to complete Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification. Employees are not allowed to work in the United States until the Form I-9 is completed and properly documented.
